Clue left deliberately vague: The name of the city (5 letters, - - - a - ) is intimately connected with an order issued by an emperor (11 letters), which in turn is linked to a certain religion, and you could argue that none of this would have happened had there not been an event at a certain bridge (7 letters).

The play was a "reading". Basically each actor stood at his/her spot, and each had a copy of the script in his/her hand. One of my friend was bored to death. The only memorable part was the "Dance of the seven veils" done by Marisa Tomei.
Gosh, that sounds awful. Did Tomei take it all off though? :-)
Not usually a fan of plays here, but an interesting experience involved Frances McDormand playing badminton on stage. Quite interesting. |
Clarification:
City: 5 letters Emperor: 11 letters Bridge: 7 letters |
Milan
Constantine Milvian |
Yes! Did Google help with this one? I know that using the word "Edict" would have made this very easy via Google, but I didn't try Googling with the new version.
So it's your turn. Of course, the significance of this is that the Edict of Milan legalized Christianity in the Roman Empire. Constantine attributed this victory over Maxentius to divine intervention; see http://www.fact-index.com/b/ba/battl...an_bridge.html |
I confess to Googling! With Constantine...let me think up one
But you had to guess Constantine -- but I suppose one could pull up a list of Emperors as easily as one could pull up a list of European cities (as I did and picked Budapest :-) ).
Okay. Try this one. I have been vague but I think there is enough there. if not let me know and I'll give a bit more:
Looking for the names of two people with the same first name but a different second name. Connection: although they died approx 50 years apart, they were born in the same country. The more recently departed one did not stay in his mother country, after living in Germany, France, UK he moved to US but did not stay there, he died back in Europe. Both have political connections though the first to die is clearly more famous for his political connection. They have another thing in common, the act that caused the death of the first gentleman is the same act that caused the fame of the second gentleman. Guy no 1 was the first to die First name 8 letters third letter A Last name 7 letters second letter A Guy no 2 died approx 50 years later First name 8 letters third letter A (of course) last name5 letters no As |
Ha! No, not that I know the answer, but I gotta vote wombat's clue as the most entertaining clue!
I was just trying to google-proof the clue
It's definitely interesting. Will have to work on it when I'm able. :-)
Both people are well known names - not that I am implying furniture designer Jo was not very well known....
I actually need to get some work done! So will check back in a wee while
Looks like we need a hint here.
The act that killed the first made the second famous when he wrote about it. The act is a three letter act but no A
Both were born in a country commonly known by a 7 letter name the last of which is an A |
I still have no clue.
Older guy - politics, younger guy - author
Yes, I know. And both are Americans. But I'm just blanking out the eight-letter first names with an "A" in the third position.
Sorry but both are not Americans - the younger chap became an American - the first guy did not and would be rotating in his pickled tomb is he knew someone had said that
