Cigalechants ~ Our Dearest Mimi!

I just heard from Mimi that she is bedfast right now with pneumonia and won't be on-line for awhile. And at the holidays, too.((w))

I imagine she is a little blue so I wanted to start a get-well thread to one of our most treasured, cherished Fodorites, one who provides excellent info on France & on Provence in particular, in hopes that it will cheer her up immensely when she comes back on-line!!

Mimi, I will miss your forthright, humorous comments & observations during this interim. Here's to hoping you have a quick & steadfast recovery (both you & your lovely hubby)! My holiday glass is raised high to you, dearest chica!!((D))

@};-Bonne noël et heureuse année!!((F))
Love,
Mary :)

crefloors Dec 18th, 2004 02:32 PM

Oh what a shame. To be ill any time is not great but holidays seems to make it worse. Snuggle up with a yummy blanket, something hot to drink, and put on some pretty music. Bless you and yours and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

hopscotch Dec 18th, 2004 02:56 PM

I enjoy all of Mimi's posts, even when she calls me out for whatever she disagrees with, maybe especially then. I love her spunk.

Pass it on to Cigalechants that I'll say a prayer tonight for her speedy recovery.

Grasshopper Dec 18th, 2004 03:18 PM

Oh poor Mimi! Get well soon. And in the meantime, let J wait on you hand and foot!

OReilly Dec 18th, 2004 03:29 PM

Darling Mimi!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I'll write more later. I'm on my way to Victoria, in the Air Canada lounge as we "speak". My poor Guinness is in the hold :(

Hugs and kisses ... Ger

Thanks Beatchick for letting us know.

Sue4 Dec 18th, 2004 03:53 PM

So sorry to hear this, Mimi. Take extra special care of yourself, and we'll all be waiting to hear how your doing. You are so helpful on here, you're a really special Fodorite - and I'm sure just as special in person! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Beatchick Dec 18th, 2004 04:10 PM

You ALL are so wonderful to send our dearest Mimsy some words of good cheer & holiday wishes!!

I just forwarded this thread to her so that she'll see when she finally gets back on-line!

Thank you, everyone!

Bailey Dec 18th, 2004 04:16 PM

Mimi.........brrrrr it's a great time to bundle up under the blankets!!!!!!!
Hot buttered-rum....hot buttered-rum....hot buttered-rum!!
I'm sure that's wishful thinking.....hot tea, hot tea, hot tea....I'm sure that's in your pot!!
Thinking of you!!!!!

Croque_Madame Dec 18th, 2004 05:35 PM

Oh, Mimi, you see how beloved you are?

Imagine the invisible hands of all these people who care about you smoothing your sheets, plumping up your pillow, tucking you in.

Imagine us standing in an invisible circle around your bed, keeping away all vexation, willing our combined strength to enter your tired body and lighten your spirit.

Then, when you are feeling more like yourself, imagine us bringing you a hot cup of tea, with a purely medicinal pastry on the side, maybe (considering the circumstances) two medicinal pastries.

Imagine all of us rejoicing in your recovery and know that you are cherished.

Lightblues Dec 18th, 2004 05:47 PM

Mimi--I envy for for all the love others feel towards you. I am so warmed by the thought of all these wonderful Fodorites surround you in your sick bed, even if just in spirit. You are one lucky gal!

Robdaddy Dec 18th, 2004 05:49 PM

Dear Cigale...

My middle daughter just recoverd from pneumonia, so I know vicariously what you are going through, just as I have vicariously enjoyed your travel reports and other posts over the years.

Please do try to be a good patient, do as you are told, and be well soon.
Best regards...Rob

LoveItaly Dec 18th, 2004 05:51 PM

Why don't we all light a candle for Mimi, a flame to send to the heavens with good wishes that she recovers quickly. ((L))

Nikki Dec 18th, 2004 06:00 PM

Mimi, I hope you are surrounded by warm memories of the south of France as you look out at our bleak Massachusetts winter; I hope all these greetings from people who know and respect you from your postings on this message board warm you and make you feel better; and I hope to see you at the January get-together when you have recovered fully.

OO Dec 18th, 2004 06:04 PM

Mimi...I'm so sorry you are down. We all send love and healing prayers/frog spit your way! I'm headed to Paris in a few days. I'm not Catholic, so not quite sure precisely what the lit candles symbolize, but assume it is love and hope for any of our friends or family, whether with us or not, who need prayers/frog spit. Last time there I lit one for my Mom in Notre Dame on Christmas eve, very, very emotional, but this time, I'll light one for you... Thursday. Feel the power coming from that beautiful cathedral! Be well Mimi. We all love you!

Lightblues Dec 18th, 2004 06:06 PM

It's nice to give well wishes, but let's not scare Mimi, ok?

Zita Dec 18th, 2004 06:10 PM

You don't want to scare her! Why not just cheer her up? Bring her some food. Otherwise you will just disturb her and that is not what you want. Is it?

OO Dec 18th, 2004 07:00 PM

I certainly didn't mean to scare Mimi by lighting a candle, and hope I did not! As I said, I believe, for me that's an act that asks for good health, nothing more, as I don't believe anything more is needed. If I've misinterpreted the Catholic concept of the candle, then I apologize for my Protestant ignorance! As a former heavy smoker, pneumonia is one of my personal weaknesses too, and one that visits me almost yearly, but I also know how utterly curable it is, and only want to offer a friend a nice thought for getting well, as I have virtually no expectation but that she will do anything but that. Maybe you have to be there to understand...it really knocks you down, but gone are the days when it wasn't a controllable illness!

Get well Mimi...it takes time and patience but you'll get there!

Grasshopper Dec 18th, 2004 07:08 PM

OO, That is a lovely idea. I am pretty sure that Mimi will love the idea of a candle glowing for her in Notre Dame. That is precisely what those votive candles are for!

Budman Dec 18th, 2004 07:08 PM

I don't think you scared Mimi. I think you meant well. I think Lightblues post is much ado about nothing. ((b))
