When we first saw the movie, we read the credits and I wrote down the name Flavigny. It sounded so familar to me. I came home and got out the map - and sure enough we had been very close to Flavigny on one of our trips. In fact, I had the name down in my notes, but we had gone in the opposite direction to Vezelay and had missed Falvigny. I knew that we would go if we got close again, and we did last fall! It is such a cute place. We arrived about noon on a Sunday and looked for a place to eat. "La Grange", a cafeteria style place, was serving Sunday dinner and everyone in town, it seemed, was eating there. It was such fun - the tables were picnic style - and everyone set together. We had such a good time! Afterwards, we found a little shop - don't remember the name - selling mainly a large assortment of post cards - the gentleman showed us pictures of all the buildings where the movie was shot - and we were able to walk around and see the main spots - where the chocolat shop was housed, etc.
I have been wanting to see the movie again ever since, and it was on TV just three days ago. I taped it and plan to watch it soon. I will be looking to spot all the places we saw while there. I certainly understand why they chose this town for the movie - it is so picturesque - a really beautiful little Burgundy village. I couldn't resist buying a little tin of the anis candies - and I think of Flavigny every time I look at it.
