OK, rethinking this.

We will make the trip to Chantilly, and will skip Senlis. I don't really have stamina so complication a day trip doesn't make sense for me.

The more I read about going to Chantilly, the more complicated it seems to get from the station to the chateau. But I will print out the bus schedules and try to find a taxi to and from the station, not adding Senlis.

If you want to connect Fontainebleau with something on the same day, I suggest my favorite of all the palaces, Ch teau de Vaux-le-Vicomte (photo below). We did a tour on the same day of both residences (left at 9 am - returned by 6:30 pm). The link below talks about our great day with tons of photos. I liked both of these more than Chantilly, although it was fun to sing a Big Bopper song there.

I love Chantilly for its gorgeous library.

Chantilly and Fontainebleau are both on the Paris Museum pass. I would love to go to Vaux le Vicomte, but I just spent big money (in my little world) on Ballet de Opera tickets, and I'm trying to get the most out of our 4 day museum passes.

I know that some people don't care for the pass, but for this trip it suits our needs. We have been to Paris both with and without the pass, depending on our plans. There are very few temporary exhibits on while we're there this trip, and we've decided to revisit several favorite works of art with skip the line privileges. This time the pass makes sense to us.

I'm still looking for an easy Sunday afternoon trip if anyone has ideas. Easy is kind of important because it will be our last day and I predict that I'll be tired. I'd prefer a cathedral but most are closed midday on Sunday and it would have to be close and direct to work. We've been to Reims, St Denis, and Chartre.

I love the Paris Museum Pass. It has saved us a lot of money and to me, more importantly, time on many trips. Have a great trip!

I wouldn't say getting to Chantilly is complicated. There is a bus from the train station to the castle but I didn't use it. It's a 15 minutes nice walk to and from.

It's really not complicated. First off, you can buy a train/bus ticket plus entry to the chateau all in one for 25 euros. There is a free bus once you get off the train to take you to the chateau (and back, assuming you don't want to continue to Senlis).
