Cell Phones in Flight

I'm sure that this will make most of us happy.

"Test bodes well for cell phones in flight"

Back to the days of yore: segregation by "pollution in the air" - - cell-phoning and non-cell-phoning sections in the aircraft.

Best wishes,

Rex

You know and I know and everybody knows there is not the slightest problems with using mobile phones on aircraft; other than the fact the plane is moving so fast that it might be difficult to hold onto a signal for very long.

Remember the United flight on 11 September? Many passengers got info on what was going on with their mobile phones as well as the stewqardess on the first AA flight speaking to control.

Seems to me the airlines are just looking for a way to make another buck or 2.

Of course, you probably couldn't use them on trans Atlantic flights anyway.

Incidentally many of the American airlines have eased up very much on the use of mobile phones on landing. I know I was on several America West flights recently and as part of the landing spiel, you know "Welcome to Las Vegas where the local time is ...You may now use your mobile phones." etc.

As long as they don't SHOUT their portion of the conversation I probably wouldn't mind too much.

TopMan, surely you're kidding. Have you ever heard anyone use a phone of any type on a plane and NOT shout?
I loved that on some trains in the UK, they now have "Quiet Cars". You are not allowed to sit in them if you even have a cell phone!

rex - I'm with you!

Instead of 3 classes of service, hopefully, they'll have 6

Chatter & Non-chatter

The only good thing about people using cell phones on a plane is that they wouldn't be driving in heavy traffic while chatting away.

At least when they're in their own vechile, the rest of us don't have to listen to mundane conversations.

Once this goes into effect, in addition to neck pillows, eye shade, and some sleeping aid, we'll have to ad earplugs.

Although I'm sure technology will "advance" to make it possible, cell phones pretty much won't work well on a plane at cruising altitude. I've been on chartered flights and the pilots didn't care whether you left your phone on because it didn't interfere with navigation equipment and the phone just didn't work.

I was recently on a short commuter flight (not in the US) sitting directly behind the copilot. He was texting away, making dinner plans. I could read them. He barely looked up as we landed. It was quite unnerving.
