Carryon Question--Shaving Cream??

If I read the rules correctly, aerosols, such as my husband's shaving cream, are limited to 3 oz size & must be placed in the quart baggie with all other 3 oz carryon liquids & gels.

Anyone know where we can find a 3oz size of aerosol shaving cream?

Got the shaving oil today at Walmart. He is going to try it, but doesn't think it will be satisfactory. He has a dark complection & his beard hairs are very thick. Growing a beard for travel is out of the question as far as he is concerned!

If the oil does not work, he is going to try the old fashioned shaving soap & lather brush. If that doesn't work & we can't find a 3oz aerosol, then we will have to check a bag. Don't want to spend trip time searching in some countries for aerosol shaving cream, plus doing that in each country along the way as we fly from one to another.

Thanks, Julie

Every drug chain has a department where "travel size" toiletries are sold. Some stores still sell this: razorandbrush.com/ingr.jpg

Failing that - lathering up in the shower with ordinary bath soap has always worked for me. I don't even carry shaving cream.

I recently got a free sample with other things of a small tube of shaving gel. I love it. The tiniest little squirt lathers up in no time to the thickest and best shaving lather I've ever seen.

Robespierre, I know that lathering with soap in the shower will not work. Few times in life he had to do that & his face burnt & was chapped & red & had lots of nicks. Plus the shave was not as good & his beard grew out too fast.

NeoPatrick, I read your info to him & he is interested in a gel that lathers that well. If it is as good as an aeosol shaving cream, then it should work on his skin & beard. Do you remember the name of it?

Thanks to both of you, Julie

Dear Julie,

Have you considered purchasing it inside the airport after you have cleared security? If you are going through a major airport, most of them have sundry stores that sell travel-sized toiletries.

If not that, I have a .5 oz tube of "Blade Runner" shaving cream (non aerosol) from Origins for Men which I keep in my bag for my husband. I believe Origins is in most malls...and I think this is a sample size so you might go in and get one...or two.

Happy travels!

Target and CVS both sell travel size aerosol shaving cream which comes in at less than 3 oz. I buy it there all the time.

Thanks Lutece. I'm going to look for that brand.

I will also look for a small size at the airport after security. However, we can't count on a getting a 3 oz there & then him not having anything.

We can't get larger than 3 oz at airport because we are connecting each way to a different airline - so will go thru security twice each day. However, I will also look after security at the 2nd airport - that is a good suggestion.

Very strong guess that mine was Clinique. I use M Lotion and often seem to get samples, so I think it was their shaving gel in a little tube.

I do have a bunch of Origins samples in a drawer, so that's a possibility, but I think I got all those from an airlines Business Class kit and I don't think they include shaving gel. Lutece's suggestion is worth checking out -- and any Clinique counter will let your or him test their shaving gel.

BINGO, Weekender! Thank you so much. Will get to our local Target/CVS & see if we can find it. That will definitely solve our carryon security problem.

Thanks again, Julie

Hi Julie:

Gillette (I think under Mach 5)makes the travel size (3oz) shave gel--it may be the same brand NeoPatrick was using. It works well and lathers up quite a bit better than regular shave cream and you don't have to use nearly as much.

Kiel's also makes a shave cream in a tube (non-aerosol) like Origins, I personally don't like the creams like that and they give my husband and me razor burn -- and my legs aren't even close to being as scruffy as a man's whiskers! All preference though.

And now we have 3 options - Clinique, Blade Runner, & 3 oz aerosol. I knew this was where to find the answer! We've decided to try & find them all & see which he likes the best. Who knows, he may also change what he uses at home!

Thanks everyone, Julie

Is he planning to shave on the plane? I would guess not. If not, save yourself the hassle and just buy some when you get there!

I've seen travel sizes in drug stores, also, and have picked up a couple, but I don't really take them when traveling. Of course, I know a guy needs more if he shaves his beard daily. I use both the cream and gel myself, for my legs, and either one works okay for me. So if you can't find one, I think you do need the aerosol for the shaving cream, but the shaving gel doesn't really need an aerosol can to work, it's just a gel that lathers when rubbed. So I think you could dispense some of that out of a regular size can into a plastic travel-size bottle and carry it with you, if you had to. I think that would lather better than regular soap.

My apologies if someone already said this...

There's a great website that sells hundrds of travel size products--even food items.

www.miniimus.com

I've ordered several times and received it in just a few days.

Whoops, I should have previewed my post

Thanks cherrybomb, for another product. We'll look for it too.

vclgoddess, he is going to shower & shave before the 2nd flight if the lounge has such facilities. If he can't, then he will definitely want to do so as soon as we check into our apartment. His beard growth is very thick & really bothers him (itches/sticks) if he can't shave regularly & he will be beyond his daily schedule when we arrive. Not an emergency, obviously, but uncomfortable for him. Finding some locally could take some time. Plus if it is not travel size, we will have to discard it, fly to another country, then look anew.

Christina, you brought up another question that I have - does security allow 3 oz bottle of "unidentified" liquid, cream, get - meaning in a small plastic bottle without a label? I thought about transferring other items into an empty generic unlabeled plastic bottle, but didn't know if that was allowed.

Thanks all, Julie

Connie, I didn't see any place on that site for toiletries? Am I missing something?

HAs he tried shaving oil? That comes in tiny bbottles and lasts for a lot longer than cream. Takes a bit of getting used to but it is good stuuf. the OH and I both use it when travelling.

Julie,

I just pulled what I bought for my husband out of his qt-sized bag (we leave tomorrow!!).

It is Edge gel for sensitive skin - enriched with vitamens and aloe - we actually both use it - travel size - so 2.75 oz. I got in the travel-sized toiletries section at Target - they have a huge section with just about everything you can think of.

Although it is a gel, it squirts out of a can and lathers up. I think it was about $1.29.

The best shaving "cream" I have ever used is Pantene super hydrating 2 in 1 shampoo. It gives a very close, smooth and comfortable shave and of course doubles as a shampoo conditioner. I just put it in a 3oz container. Another good bet is "Bump Fighter." It is a gel in a tube that is found in the African American section but it is about 4.5 oz.. Although regular face soap will leave a razor burn, a glycerin bar soap most likely will not and can be used. I usually carry one of those too. It also can double as a decent shampoo. I find the travel size of the popular brands of aerosols to be not up to the above 3 in giving a good shave.
