car rental VW Caravelle--any experience in Ireland?
Still trying to find a car that will hold 6 adults and luggage. May still go with 2 cars. Has anyone ever rented a VW Caravelle?
Thanks |
It depends on how much luggage each person brings. It could be a pain with 2 cars trying to keep us with each other driving around the country.

When you say car do you mean a sedan? I can't imagine any would be big enough. A mini-van might do if you don;t have too much luggage - but we've never found a car that could hold even 4 people plus luggage really comfortably.

Its a van and might do depending on luggage. If Golf clubs are involved then maybe its would be too much.

Why don't you rent a People Carrier - Galaxy, Alhambra or Sharan. They are widely available, and you can remove one of the third row of seats for extra luggage space. Or hire a roof box. We have driven all over Ireland and Europe with 2 adults, 5 children in a Galaxy with a roof-box, and have had no bother. And you can imagine the luggage!

We rented a Mercedes Vito thru Autoeurope while in Germany in Sept. We had 6 adults with 1 large and 1 carry-on bag per couple. There was plenty of room. Three rows of seats and area for bags behind the last row. We drove on several mountain roads in Switzerland and felt comfortable on these narrow roads.

Two years ago we rented a Ford Galaxy van from Dan Dooley. Not only was there plenty of room, but the folks in the back seat could sightsee without having a stiff neck by the end of the day.
