Cab fare from CDG to 5th
 

What's the average fare nowadays from CDG to 5th? I am wondering if I will need to stop at an ATM at the airport, or will my 50 euro from last trip be enough.

That should be enough for the taxi. But it's a good idea to have some more euro on hand also.

That should be enough, but you never know because every event is not at or below the average. I would want some more, just in case something unusual happened.

Well you all confirmed what I've been thinking - always better to be safe than sorry. Can you tell I have the last minute pre-trip jitters.

Depends on time of day and traffic. We were in Paris the week before last, took taxi from CDG to hotel near Place de la Concorde. It was a Saturday morning and no traffic, fare was around 39 Euro plus tip.

1. Get in cab
2. Give driver address
3. Stop at ATM if necessary

RER B gets you in the 5th for 8 Euros and in less time. Taxi can be slightly more than 50Euros.

Unless the OP doesn't know that other options exist. Or that her &euro;50 will buy a ride to town <i>plus</i> a nice dinner, with wine.

Believe me, I would love to save a little money for that nice dinner and wine, BUT, I have a 24&quot; suitcase and a rolling carryon, so I'm not about to schlepp all that onto the RER and then walk 2 blocks to the hotel. Thanks for pointing out the other options though. One of these trips I will learn to pack lighter.

You can always easily find a cab that takes credit cards if you're concerned about not having enough euro; just tell the person who hails the cabs at airport.

Hmmm why is this getting to be controversial, or do I just bring this out in people?? It was a simple question, how much is cab fare from CDG to Paris. I haven't been there since 2004. I am not a newbie to Fodors, or to International travel. And, for your info Robespierre when I took the TGV to Lyon, my hotel was a rather short walk from the station and I did not have to tackle stairs, or a crowded metro - I hopped off the train, and walked. (I took a taxi from my hotel in Paris to the Gare d'Lyon). I also had a smaller suitcase back then. Had I been going straight from CDG to Lyon, I would probably have taken a taxi to the Gare Lyon. Sorry, but I guess I just don't get your attitude.

Leely: I am staying at the Hotel College du France, which has gotten really good reviews on TA. I have stayed at Hotel St. Jacques and an apartment on Rue des Ecoles Polytechnique before. I really like that area as it's quite lively and accessible to everything.

Grandmere: That's a really good suggestion about the credit card. I've never used one for taxis before.

Saps: Well obviously I need more than 50 euro for Paris, you are kidding, right??? I really would rather wait until I can get to the hotel where there is an ATM close by, which I have used many times, and not having to locate an ATM at the airport, with my luggage, and then carry that cash with me to the hotel. Not a big deal, I'm sure, and I will probably end up doing just that. I like to limit the trips to the ATM, so I usually withdraw as much as I can each time and quite frankly, I am not comfortable carrying around that much cash. BTW - loved your trip report. Ain't Rome Grand, so I'll probably hit the airport ATM, get 100E and call it a day.

In December 2005, I took a cab from CDG to the Gare de l'Est (I budgeted two hours from landing to getting to the Gare using the RER, but of course CDG was a mess then due to all the construction - and I was running WAY late despite my flight arriving early) and it was 70E, including tip. PRICEY! I was told that when I was waiting for my luggage that it would be expensive - but I didn't realize that expensive. But I barely made my train, so it was worth it. Note - it was during the afternoon - maybe he would have charged me less if I had come at a different time. Good luck.

Fare will depend on time of day and day of week and traffic. In May, fare from CDG to 7th on a weekday morning was &euro;56. Fare returning to CDG from 7th in May and September, on a Sunday morning, with NO traffic, was &euro;46 and &euro;44.

However, our fare from CDG to the 7th on a Wednesday morning week before last was &euro;66. There were quite a few (the usual) slowdowns, then a serious accident (motor cycle and small truck) with injured being treated on the highway. The taxi driver was very apologetic about this and waved away a tip, which I gave her anyway. She did her very best to get by the accident.

Your best bet is to withdraw a few more euros when you arrive at CDG (if your bank will not be offline at that time).

From the get-go let me say I'm not advocating one mode over another. Just noting my own recent exerience.

Barb, I was in Paris last week. For the first time, I got up the nerve to take the RER. I had two bags, a smallish 24&quot; and a wheeled overnight bag---the small bag slips onto the handle of the other to form a single rolling unit.

What kept me from trying this before? Fearing a mountain of steps where I might regret dragging my own bags. Finding my way around the airport. Getting on the wrong train.

As it turned out it was a piece of cake. We found the ticketmaster and the right platform with no difficulty at all. No stairs at CDG, just escalators. The train came quickly and we were in Paris much faster than if we'd taken a cab (at rush hour). At the St. Michel station, we went directly up the stairs next to our departure point (the stairs weren't bad at all). Once we got our bearings, we rolled our bags 4 blocks to the hotel. It really was easy...and we saved enough to pay for dinner. I loved it and was glad I overcame my fears.

PS: Please post a report on your hotel when you get back. We walked by it while we were there and I remembered I'd considered it in the past.

loads of ATM's if you run short of ready cash, besides, there are trains from cdg to everywhere!

grazilla, I am not just referencing this thread but the other 947 posts where Roby tries to convince folks NOT to take a cab from CDG. I'm glad you found that info from him helpful on this thread. It surely is plentiful on this board.

(Note- the 937 # is completely made up. It may be an exaggeration - but then again, it may not).
