Bullfight in Barcelona?

I noticed on a map of Barcelona that they have a bullring. Has anybody seen or know if they perform bullfights in Barcelona. Circumstances prevented me from going to one while I was in Madrid & Sevilla, and I really want to witness one in person. Yeah, I already know it's cruelty to animals... that's a different debate.
Thanks, Kevin

Yes, there are bullfights in Barcelona. Here's a schedule (in Spanish, but Enero is January so take it from there)
http://www.6toros6.com/estad99/matador99.htm

Para Kevin el matador (y otros toreros fodorianos):
Right before you leave for Barcelona, go to www.torosensevilla.com/noticias/barcelona.htm
Look under "Temporada 2000", and you'll find the corridas for the next two weeks; you'll also be able to see whether there will be a special corrida or week-long feria during your stay. There are two bullrings; the one you want is La Monumental; season runs from April-Oct., with corridas every Sunday afternoon.
Cuidado con las astas!

Hi

When we were in B last week we saw the bullring which you might have spotted on a map, there is a beautiful building in Place Espanya at the foot of Montjuic. However this is no longer used for fights.

I was told by someone that Catalan people are not as fond of the bull fight as other regions of Spain but that they are still held, just not in that bull ring.

Go and see it anyway, it is a lovely building and stands at a crossroads with a lovely mix of architecture...

Kavey

Kevin,
Ay, the crazy things that curiosity can lead you to!
Just found a web page,"toros en Barcelona" designed by one crafty Catalan journalist:
http://personal3.iddeo.es/torosbarce...ertagrande.htm
Not only does it list all the Barcelona corridas for 2000, but you can also *apparently* buy tickets on line through serviticket.com (ah, that superior catalan know-how...) Could have purchased a ticket for Sun, May 7 to see "El Juli" (Spain's 17 yr.old wonderboy matador heartthrob-the L. De Caprio of bullfighting). Saw a diagram of the Plaza Monumental, could have selected a particular "tendido" (1-11) in either the "sol" or "sombra" and could have bought (supposedly, but didn't attempt it) the best seat in the plaza, a tendido 11, sombra, front row for 84 euros. So now we know...
As Kavey says, the beautiful Plaza Las Arenas on the Plaza de Espanya is no longer used.

Now,if you (or other Fodors aficionados) really want/need to see a complete list of corridas in other bullrings in Spain, go here:
www.burladero.com Click on "carteles", then under "carteles ano 2000", click on the month that interest you and voila!-all the corridas taking place that month in all the plazas de toros of Spain.
Viva la tecnologia!
