a HAH the toad in the hole mystery is sol-ved. What's that about Americans and British being separated by a common language?

Hello Ursela,
I would never, ever, use meats of any sort in bubble and squeak.
It really is just left-over mashed potato and cabbage fried up (and I fry it up in butter!)
Regards
Maggie.

Sorry Ursela,
I forgot to say that you are absolutely right, toad in the hole is baked in the oven.
Regards
Maggie

I give it to guests as part of my huge fry-ups:) You can actually buy it, prepared for frying in tins of vaccuum packed in packets.

A chip butty is a chip sandwich but we don't really do them up here; neither do we do toad in the hole.

we do provide good food too, you know?

Hello Sheila,
I'm interested in what you term "up here".
I was born and bred in Yorkshire where toad in the hole and chip butties are a part of the staple diet.
Where do you hail from?
Regards
Maggie

Aberdeenshire. Great answers BTW

Do you remember that comic strip in the Dandy or the Beano or something which had a village called someting in the Marsh. As a consequence I grew up thinking Toad in the whole came from East Anglia

Hi Sheila,
Don't remember "something in the Marsh" in the Dandy or Beano (comic papers for those of you who are not aware), but remember "Much Binding in the Marsh" from some radio program years ago"
I do not live a million miles away from Moreton in Marsh on which I think the radio show was based.
Regards
Maggie.
