We flew WTP this August from Toronto to LHR for $140 each way extra. For the $280 extra it was definitely worth it. I would probably pay up to 400 total extra, but not more as I do not think it was that much more room.

On the British Airways web site it will tell you what it would cost to up grade to "plus". You do need to go through the steps of selecting flights first. Last year when returning from Heathrow to San Francisco I was offered and took it up for an up-grade for 40 pounds. Thought it was worth it.

Double the cost of economy? I'd keep shopping.
We paid $200pp/one way. To me, it was definitely worth it! |
It's basically a business class seat with coach service.
As if. It's a coach seat with an immovable armrest and an extra inch of width (but effective width reduced by the armrests so that it feels pretty much like coach) and some extra legroom, plus a legrest. To me it depends on the segment. If it's a daytime flight the extra cost is not especially worth it IMO; on an overnight just maybe, but if your city pairs support MaxJet or you can use miles or money to upgrade to real business, it's way, way preferable to do so. YMMV. |
Checked BA for a hypothetical IAH to LON roundtrip for low season next March and the upgrade to WTP is $331 pp, on a economy RT ticket of $488 (including the additional fees). The upgrade percentage is fairly hefty in this case.
The question for me would be if the total airfare cost would fit within my budget -- $488 economy or nearly double at $800-plus to go WTP. Doubt I would upgrade. Jim |
HI There,
Does anyone know if you can purchase an upgrade to World Traveller Plus at the airport when you check in? I've heard it can be cheaper this way? Any thoughts/comments? |

I've seen it happen for US$250 (US to London; haven't seen it personally but there are plenty of reports of it happening ex-London too.) I've also seen (more frequently) buy-ups from WTP to Club for the same or a bit more $/£. Obviously load factors on any particular day will be a decisive point. An extra $500 for a WT- to WT+ round trip would not be worth it to me unless one was in a middle-middle seat on a 9+ flight. |
I've done it once and would not consider it again. Not worth the money IMO, maybe becuase I'm tall and the 'extra' leg room seemed not to exist. Just like traveling regular economy.
I now ugrade to Business/First class and beleive me there is a considerable difference. |
