Also, "Chocolat" with Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche. Set in a small French village which could easily be any small French village that you have visited.

Another Ronin vote, but one to definately miss because it's so bad it's not worth watching for the scenery of Berlin and the Veneto-Ripley's Game, sequel to the Talented Mr. Ripley-boy was it bad. Another good one though is the HBO movie My House in Umbria.

For books- On Rue Tatin- an American couple who moved to Normandy. A little like Under the Tuscan Sun (book), but more enjoyable. The book is based on the true accounts of the author.

Murder in the Marais- by Cara Black. AS the name implies it takes place in the Marais district in Paris. The book is a murder mystery of Jews which links both the past and the present. Great read!

Angels and Demons- Dan Brown Has the same main character as the Davinci Code- Robert is now in Rome trying to solve a murder of a scientist. If you like Davinci code this is a great book. You find that Dan Brown's books follow a certain formula.

All of my favorite movies have already been mentioned. Check out Before Sunrise/Before Sunset if you haven't seen them. So amazing!

I loved Ripley's Game. John Malcovich plays an older Ripley and is wonderful. Great sets, an engaging plot, lots of suspense. To me the best of the Ripley movies. The book was great too.

I'm hooked on Ian Rankin's detective novels set in Edinburgh. Michael Dibdin's books of the same genre are set in Italy.

My all time favorite book is Agony and the Ecstasy. You will want to go on a pilgramage to see all of Michaelangelo's works.

Others I've enjoyed, Extra Virgin (Italy) and Olivia by Judith Rosner (Italy and NYC).

Goin' way back to "Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang" set in France and Germany.

On a more serious, dramatic note, my favorites have been:

"Facing Windows"(2004) starring Giovanna Mezzogiorno, Massimo Girotti (in Italian with English subtitles) is a terrific drama/romance set in Rome.

"Heaven" (2002) with Cate Blanchett and Giovanni Ribisi, is another good film in Italian with English subtitles. It is set in Torino and the Tuscan countryside.

I, too, enjoyed "Pane e Tulipi" set in Venice. Also, all the other titles that Isabel mentioned are great too.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Cinema Paradiso, one of my all time favorites.

I just saw Ocean's Twelve last night. Wow. Great shots of Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Lake Como - almost every scene was shot in Europe. Add to it that almost every scene also has George Cloony and Brad Pitt and, well let's just say I'll be seeing that one again.
