Book with USAirways
I'm seeing some good deals for travel on USAirways to Italy in May of 2005. I'm afraid to book with them though. What would happen if I bought my tickets and then they went out of business?

That's a question that has been thrown about a lot on here lately, and the answer is, nobody knows.

Hi D,
>What would happen if I bought my tickets and then they went out of business?< It is highly likely that no one would honor your ticket. |
I have no idea where Ira is getting this "information" so cannot comment on its accuracy.
But, generally when airlines liquidate there has been a federal-backed requirement that other airlines must honor the tickets but only on a space-available basis. That "rule" was due to expire last month (November 2004) and I have no idea if it has been continued. Unfortunately, there is a vicious circle now operating around US Airways..people are afraid to book or are being advised not to do so and this hinders further the airline's chances of emerging from a second bankruptcy. Personally, I would avoid booking with them for the same reason(s) that you have been hesitant. |
Yeah, I've seen some really good fares too. But I decided not to take the chance.

Dear Intrepid,
The rule expired. It wasn't much help anyway, in that it only required other airlines to *try* to get you on a flight that had the same itinerary. |
