Best Walking Sandals?
 

We will be traveling through Britain in June. I would like to purchase a pair of sandals that would take me through a day of walking with comfort. I know that a sandal will not provide as much support as a tie shoe, but I would like to alternate my tie shoe with a walking sandal. Has anyone had REALLY good luck with a specific brand and style?

A pair of Mephistos served me well in Italy last spring. I have a narrow foot, but velcro on strap allowed me a more snug fit.

Eccos have a three-strap walking sandal that you can adjust perfectly. I have 3 pairs in different colors.

My Easy Spirit sandals were like walking on a cloud. I'm hard on my shoes and they were very sturdy too. They came in different widths.

I wore a pair of Naot's in Greece for 3 weeks in absolute comfort.

Stonefly black leather sandals. They have a thick stap across the top (near toes) and a velcro strap in the back. The sole is made of the kind of material in running shoes. They have an elastic back to let you flex your foot and a wedge heel so they look normal (not like some ugly orthopedic looking things). They lasted me 3 weeks in Portugal walking miles a day plus the whole summer. In my opinion they look much more stylish then the mephistos, eccos or merrills. You can look for them on the internet. They might be sold at www.pegasus.com. If you don't have luck finding them, I second the Naots.

I think I would also vote for Mephistos. They are not cheap, but very comfortable.

Ilene, now I want some Stonefly's and cant find them on the web. I looked up your site and it is gret for live surf cams but I cant find shoes on it. Did you ever try Naots? This is a great thread, I can never get really comfortable sandals that don't rub on sockless feet.

Opps. The site is www.pegasusshoes.com. I took a look and they actually don't have the stoneflys on that site but if you go with Naots, mephistos, merrill, etc. they all seem to be on there and the site offers free shipping.<BR>I still like the stoneflys the best. I bought them in Philadelphia at a store called Benjamin Lovell and in Boston at a store on the corner of State St. and Kilby Street. I don't know if that helps!

Thanks for the help!! I am in the same dilemma--blisters where the sandals rub on sockless feet!! (Even after I break them in). After checking Pegasus shoes, I have been looking for other sites that would carry Stonefly as well. If anyone has any luck, I'd sure be interested in other sites to try. What about Wolky? Has anyone had experience with those? Norm Thompson has them advertised as the #1 Walking Sandal. Thanks again for everyone's help. I will have to check out Mephisto, Ecco and Naot!!

Has ANYONE really found great sandals to wear with bare feet and not get blisters or red spots after a day of walking? Please let me know and I will buy the gems asap.

My Naots, although comfortable, stretched out after one season.

My Easy Spirit "Elope" sandals really didn't give me blisters, and I walked all day for weeks without socks. I did alternate them with other shoes occasionally. Less costly than some of the other travelers' favorites. Last year I bought a pair of Easy spirit and Naturalizer Eurosport sole sandals. Both were comfortable but the naturalizer shoes were/are THE most comfie pair of sandals I have ever owned.

I agree with PAR about the Naturalizer Eurosport sandals. They are still terrific after much use.

I just checked the Naturalizer web site and the Eurosport style that I have is no longer available. I have no clue as to how comfortable the other styles are, but these shoes are available all over the US so give them a try.

I was upset to read evelyn's response that naturalizer no longer carries the eurosole sandal. When you check their website and put that in as keyword, nothing comes up. However, when you click on sandal, the first one is called "contact" and it is the only one with that eurosole. It looks like the shoe I have and it costs $59.00. I'll have to check with the stores to see if they still carry it. I also found many, many online discount shoe sites when I typed in naturalizer shoe including offers for all of the shoes listed so far. good luck with your decision.
