best thing to do in Barcelona

our first time trip-10 days.

For those of you who know the city:
if you could do only one thing in Barcelona what would it be?

Thanks

Visit Sagrada Familia

Love or not - it is unique.

Sagrada Familia and Casa Batllo shows the best of the place's culture. It's a unique place to hang out. Quite an enjoyable place indeed.

cruiseluv Jun 28th, 2011 04:39 AM

Go to La Boquería market.

Dani_A Jun 28th, 2011 04:44 AM

Sagrada Familia for sure; it is breath-taking. Also the beach area is really cool.

Dani_A Jun 28th, 2011 04:45 AM

by the way, are you planning to stay 10 days in Barcelona only?

ita Jun 28th, 2011 05:23 AM

Visit Gaudis
Eat Tapas
Do walking tours (barrio Gotic, Picasso, etc)
Take a day trip - we did Girona which is worthwhile, but there are many other possibilities as well

I wouldn't go to Barcelona and do just one thing. But in addition to those listed above, I would go to a performance at the Palau de la Musica Catalana. And I would go to the museum of the history of the city of Barcelona and walk through the underground remains of the Roman city.

And I would eat as many kinds of odd looking clams as I could find.

ita Jun 28th, 2011 03:07 PM

Nikki, I remember your report about the clams. I don't know if I have ever eaten clams. I am not going to do just one thing. I am going to do all the one things that people tell me about. So far, everything I see is already on my list. Check my other post.

Narrowing it down to 1 thing is just impossible. Tops:

Palau de la Musica Catalana (tour and/or concert)
Sagrada Familia
Santa Maria del Mar (this might not be on many people's tops lists, but I just loved this church)
quick train ride to Colonia Guell to see the crypt
Sitting in a cafe or bar soaking up the atmosphere
Wandering, wandering, wandering the different great neighborhoods
And so much more...

Casa Mila' de Gaudi'
Eat at Cerveceri'a Catalana

danon Jun 28th, 2011 07:48 PM

yes, go to Cerveceria Catalana. It is mobbed at all times( mostly by locals)but great fun and good food at a reasonable price.

LSky Jun 28th, 2011 07:51 PM

Visit all the Gaudis
Then carve out time in your visit to stay a few more days :)

cheryllj Jun 28th, 2011 08:44 PM

Sagrada Familia.

I know it's a popular choice, but it was an easy one for me. As denon said, even if you don't love it, it's unique. There isn't anything else like it (not that I've ever seen anyway).

The other Gaudi sites would be next: Parc Guell, Casa Batllo, etc. And La Boqueria is interesting too.

danon Jun 28th, 2011 08:47 PM

-take a walk by the beach and Port Vell.
-go to the top of Montjuic by cable car
-spend some time in cafes on beautiful Rambla de Catlunya ( NOT Ramblas)
