I've seen lists of the markets, but is there a map that shows them all?

No map that I know of, but sounds like a good project to do on CommunityWalk.com....

By far, our favorite "moveable feast" market was in the Auteuil section of the 16th, right by the Michel-Ange Auteuil metro stop. Wednesday and Saturday mornings. A short stroll from market down La Fontaine takes you to a small "market street" with an excellent butcher, baker, cheese shop, etc. open for business most days of the week.
As for neighborhoods to stay in, our favorite is the Passy/Victor Hugo neighborhood of the 16th, followed by Auteuil. AKA the "poodle arrondissement" (or in our case, the English Cocker arrondissement) |
BTilke,
That's a nice little farmer's market. I was staying in an appartment 2 blocks from there a couple of year's ago and it was my first experience with a local market (and staying outside of central Paris). Still remember the vendors sharing recipes with residents, asking older lady when she was going to cook those potatoes and picking out ones based on her answer. And the flower shop, cheese shop, award winnning chocolate shop on Avenue Mozart. . I stayed in a hotel in the 16th last time (Nov 2006) and went to the Monoprix right there, and the movie theatre on Blvd Passy. I could see staying there again. Nice area. Mike |
Another vote for Saxe-Breteuil. When we visited in November we went on Wednesday and Saturday. I got some of the most amazing artisnal mustard, outstanding olives and loads of other stuff. The vendors are very friendly and willing to give out samples. We packed our mini bar fridge in the hotel with goodies. Our hotel was located just off a side street, so it was really convenient. It is a true neighborhood market with all of the locals shopping for weekly supplies. Don't miss it for a true taste of French lifestyle. Have fun!

Another vote for Rue Mouffetard in the 5th ... have breakfast or lunch at the bottom of the hill.
Enjoy! |
