Another good place to eat is the Brasserie en l'Ile, just across the bridge from Notre Dame on Ile de St. Louis. I don't think they have a menu prix fixe, but you could do very well a la carte. Great place with a great view, ifyou can eat outside.

Suggestions for the 16th?

Le Trumilou in the 4th

Hi kk,
You might like http://www.vagenende.fr/us/p1.html We usually go there when we are in Paris. It is a turn-of-the-century, Art Nouveau bistro with a FP, 3 course menu at 26E. >...my half of a cheap but great bottle of wine....< You can get cheap GOOD, but not cheap GREAT wine. :) Enjoy your visit. ((I)) |
hi ira, i once had one swig of a divine wine that goes for $1000 a case. it was being served by accident at an auction, until they realized they were pouring one of their high end auction items gratis to the rabble :) i never expect to drink anything like that again, but glad to have that one taste!
my "great wine" is probably your "good" so i'm happy to hear i may be able to fit it in my budget in paris :) |
thank you all for the wealth of suggestions. i'll be staying in the 6th, but some of the farther-lying places sound worth a trip. and if i do most of my restaurant/brasserie-going at lunch, it sounds like i will be able to eat very well indeed.
which of your suggestions do you like as much for ambience as the food? |
Hi kkk,
Since you will be in the 6th, Brasserie Lipp - excellent choucroute www.la-mediterranee.com/index1.htm Bistrot de la Grille Saint Germain - 14, Rue Guisarde http://www.laferrandaise.com/ Fish (La Boissonnerie) - 69, rue de Seine La Maison du Jardin: 27, rue de Vaugirard Some of these might be a little more than 30E. Enjoy. ((I)) |
A restaurant that I liked and have dinned there a number of times is La Table d'Aligre. A friend of mine from Chablis took me their the first time and this place is not well know to the tourists. It is located about 3 or 4 blocks behind the new Opera at Bastille.
They are open for lunch and reopen about 8 in the evening for dinner. The menu is creative and seems to change daily. This restaurant was noted in the Bon Appetite magazine a few years ago in their Paris issue. Price is about 27€ for a three course meal. I would recommend a reservation as there has always been a line at the door when they open in the evening. La Table d'Aligre 11, place d'Aligre 75012 Paris Tel: 01 43 07 84 88 Metro: Ledru-Rollin |
Gundy if you are not in the least adventuresome, the soup and duck confit (a well done leg and thigh of duck) are safe bets
or the lentil salad and the beef or chicken Hope that they have profiteroles or creme brulee for dessert! Try the foie gras or pate and the rabbit or steak tartare if you like to experience different meals. Enjoy. As Ira says the wine is good, not great. The aperitif was kir royale last time. |
BTW - "volaille" is chicken so no need to be afraid of that though in this case it is in a stew with foie gras... a good chance to try this wonderful delicacy.
I just had a wonderful dinner tonight at my favourite Paris resto - for a bit more than E30 - a wonderful piece of skate Moisonnier in the 5th |
bookmarking because I know I'll want to find this thread again in April ;;)
My vote would be for Le Pre Verre but wine with dinner would put it above 30e, alas Deborah |
kkkkate,
Here's all the info regarding the cute Basque/Bearn bistro, Auberge de Jarente, which for us, always warrants a trip to this atmospheric corner of the Marais. http://tinyurl.com/ddkhlx As you see, for dinner you can have 3 (very plentiful) courses along with a bottle of Southwestern wine (such as Cahors, Irouléguy) for 32 euros. The locals sitting next to us on our last visit proclaimed it to be the best value in their neighborhood. |
Hi
If you love mussels then Leon de Bruxelles is the place. Several outlets in Paris - http://tinyurl.com/bjq79c |
I have a nice simple one....
Le Caveau de L'Isle 36 rue Saint Louis en I'Isle 75004 Paris They have a nice 3 course set price menu that I believe is around 30 euros. That doesn't include wine or drinks. Its is well worth the visit. First the Ile St Louis is lovely to visit, second the bistro has a great French menu and has NEVER let me down. Below is their websight and my review from a trip in 2004 and 2005. i was just in Paris in November 2008 and went to the bistro twice. Great as usual! http://lecaveaudelisle.com http://richardab.typepad.com/iheartp...eau_de_li.html http://richardab.typepad.com/iheartp...eau_de_li.html |
sounds like some great (or maybe ira would say good ;)) finds
(i do love mussels, but i'll have just come from 9 days in brittany, so think i'll go for other options) |
yum! bookmarking! :)

Leon's is fine for mussels, and they are everywhere, but have little ambience. You can get mussels MANY places, but our favorite thing to do is to go across the street from the Gare de Nord and have them at one of the cafes along the street there, sitting on the sidewalk area, facing the gare. Our favorite is Maison Blanche. They are cheap--and of course, have other things too.

I would really recommend the place called Chez Clement. There are several of them in the city. A warm, friendly armosphere
