Hope all is well with you during this time of trouble. |

Okay, do kick things off how about the Cloisters (1504) of Santa Maria della Pace in Rome? Here is the question and its an easy one: Where is it located?
|
In via della Pace (near Piazza Navona), and it's by Bramante, who also did the Tempietto at San Pietro in Montorio.
Questions: 1. Where is San Pietro in Montorio? 2. What very important building did Bramante also work on? |
I love St P in Montorio for its commanding view of Rome fom the Gianicolo hill, the church was supposedly built on the site of Saint Peter's crucifixion but I think more than one site lays claim to that event. I thought the Tempietto charming.
Here's a tid bit I picked up, Gianicolo Hill's name comes from the Latin Janu Coeli, "Portal of Heaven". |
You can find San Pietro in Montorio on the Janiculum in Rome.
I know Bramante worked on the Vatican complex so I'd say he had a hand in some big projects at St Peter's? |
Another easy one: Where is Santa Cecilia located and which of these does it have: a fountain in the front square and a galley where you can see a famous fresco by Cavallini.
|
I believe he was the original architect of St Peter's until Raphael was brought in. Michelangelo's designs were also incorporated, notably the dome I think.
|
oops, meaning Bramante
|
degas, the fresco.
|
elaine, Yes, but there is also a pretty fountain out front. Trick question? What was the name of the fresco? And you were right about Bramante and St. Peter's.
|
Last Judgment
I was only there once, as I recall only bits of it are still intact |
Speaking of Michelangelo, another good fine example would be the Piazza del Campidoglio on the Capitoline Hill - that was one nice bit of urban planning.
|
The Palladian villas, beginning with "La Rotonda"...
Best wishes, Rex |
