We stayed at the Ren Trocadero many times when it was a Sofitel. After the changeover to Marriott, well, the location was the same, but we didn't the like property itself as much. It is a great area to stay in, though, especially for those who have been to Paris before.

What don't you like about the Ren Trocadero, WeisserTee?

Just came back last week from Paris. We stayed at the Marriott Rive Gauche and it was beautiful. Some friends in Paris had recommended I stay away from the CE location due to the noise factor and pricey restaurants. The Rive Gauche location turned out to be perfect. It is located right between two metro stations (Saint Jacques & Glaciere). It was just a couple minutes walk to either.
My husband is top level with Marriott and we had access to the Exec Lounge as it is called there and we had great breakfasts everyday. Peach yogurt was fantastic! They also had "tea time" and then after that "French Hors d'oeuvres", which often served as our dinner. There were always coffee and sort drinks available and during "happy hour" (which ran during and beyond the French Hors d'oeuvres time) there was beer and wine and a special cocktail available.
The bed was the most comfortable bed I have EVER slept in and the staff there was exceptional. I would definitely recommend this location.

I think that could be fine, it's just a bit out of the way for some people, or in a kind of dull area.

I don't think most people would be spending their time eating so much or having cocktails in a hotel, either, they want to be visiting Paris. For example, you had "tea time", then proceeded immediately to "hor d'oeuvres" and ate more, I would guess within an hour or so, most people want to eat and be doing things outside in Paris. Maybe for some business people stuck at the hotel all day that makes sense, but I still don't get why you'd spend so much time even in the evening there.

Christina--I'm certainly not suggesting someone would take all of their meals at the hotel. I was trying to illustrate the flexibility one would have with regard to staying there. Whether you want breakfast, a mid afternoon refresher or something to tide you over until dinner, this hotel had it covered.
As to it being in a "dull" area, since most of our time at the hotel was at night for sleeping, we appreciated the quiet/dull surroundings. Not saying this is for everyone, just attempting to share my viewpoint for the benefit of others.

Do both the Marriott Champs Elysees and the Renaissance Place Vendome have club levels?

No clubs at either. I think Rive Gauche may be the only Paris property with a club.

1.5 million Marriott points? Lordie.. we have over 300,000 and like SF I thought we were doing good :) I am going to burn through all of them on our trip to Spain next May...

We are platinum and do not always get upgraded. One thing I do, is put in the reservation "notes" is "platinum member - upgrade please.
