burg in German also means castle - like in Burg Eltz - perhaps burgs arouse around castles - like Heidelberg - oops that is the contrary! more like Wurzburg and Salzburg? And yes I heard there was a Burgburg or Burgberg I think!

MyrianC, thanks for the generous offer to look up my route, but I was away from the computer for some time today. We leave for our trip early in the morning. We'll have to sort it out in real time. I think this is probably too late for your planning, but Mainz is a good choice for a last night close to the airport. It is on the S-Bahn and has a pleasant old city section, a beautiful cathedral, some Chagall stained glass windows in another church.

Watch out in Belge for the Trappist beers - pack a wallop with a booze content more like wine!

We are back in the USA. What a trip! Vttraveler, thanks for the info on Mainz but we ended up using a rewards night at the Holiday Inn Express in Frankfort. That was a mistake because the hallway was a hard surface and we heard every shoe that hit the floor all night long. Our room was also too close to the door that closed off the hallway from the lobby area and it slammed all hours as well. PalenQ, I really enjoyed the Leefe Blond Beer in Brussels. I didn't try the Trappist beers, I usually asked the waiter what they would order with each meal and was happy with their choice. You all were right about filling each day with too much. My DH wanted to sleep in most days and we didn't make it to the train station until after 10am. By the time we found the right train, a tourist map at the destination station and got our bearings in each town, we really only had half a day to visit all the sites I wanted to see. We really enjoyed the trip though and want to thank everyone for their help here.
