Beaches between Siena and Rome
Hi everyone,
Our trip to Tuscany is taking shape. We would like to spend the last two days resting, ideally in a town with a beach, good restaurants, some historical sites and churches - and somewhere between Siena and Rome, ideally closer to Rome than to Siena. Any thoughts? What is Orbetello like? Mike, |
Can't comment on Orbetello, but you might consider Lago di Bolsena, a large crater lake between Rome and Siena. The town of Bolsena on the lake has a beach area for swimming and there are water activities (boating) available and there is also a promenade.
Bolsena has a picturesque old town with some fine old churches and a new town below. If you felt like exploring further, Sorano, Pitigliano, Acquapendente and Orvieto are not too far. Etruscan sites and thermal baths dot the area, |
Check Isola del Giglio. After the removal of the Costa Concordia ruin, it got again a lovely place.
