As I said before, the Hotel Mogador was a very decent if modest place when I stayed in 2002. Location is close to th center of Bayeux but not right in (easy to walk to stuff). I would stay there again.

Hi Grandmere: I posted what happened on original post for that. Sorry you missed it.

What happened is that LaChaine's website was only running in French. They said the English version was being upgraded. I guess they're still not completed.

I did all our corrsepondence by email.
They were great to work with.

Board (D) & (B) or (L) & (D) is 92E,
Kingbed 120E.

They had 2 rooms left for our dates so we were fortunate in securing our Rez'.

Hi Screamer:

Have you tried Andrew's suggestion of Hotel Mogador or Hotel Lion d'Or?

What are your dates?

Hotel Lion d'Or, AUberge St.Pierre, and the Chateau du Sully
had availabilty for May 5-10

The Bellefontaine, Ferme de la Ranconniere did not have availabilty.

Also check trip advisor and venere.com
for lodging.

Hi DiG
Still awaiting a reply from Churchill Hotel about which Ive heard good reports. If not it will be the Lion d'Or - hopefully. We are going over the Easter hols - need accommodation for 15/16th April. Thanks for the assistance!

DiG,
Thanks for repeating the info; guess I did miss it on original post.

Another musing: it seems that they are charging differently now, unless I am misunderstanding what you're saying. We paid so much for the room (can't remember what it was now) and had to spend a certain amount/person for dinner.

And there were few guests there; I think in addition to our foursome for dinner, there was only another table (2 at most) occupied. It felt as though we were private guests. We arrived on Mon., 5/9, approx. same time, right? But maybe you'll be there for weekend and therefore busier time.

Interesting!

So Late Rooms cocked up our confirmed reservations for the Chirchill. Having cancelled our hotel in Reuen we are left not knowing where to stay. Hopefully the Lion d'or will come up trumps.. will let you know.

In my last post I see that I have used what is probably a colloquialism, "so much"--I didn't mean "very much", but "a certain amount".

Good luck, screamer; as you're probably finding out, it is late to book now at popular places for April. I booked d'Argouges in Jan. for May.

Your good wishes worked Grandmere! We are now booked into the Lion d'Or - 114 Euros inc. breakfast. Now booking our trip to the D-day beaches - I think a whole day will be required as my husband is very interested - hope I get to see the tapestry too.

Screamer, I'd be interested to hear about the booking snafu. How did LateRooms screw it up?

screamer Feb 15th, 2006 09:53 AM

Hi WillTravel,
Screw it up is perhaps better than cocked it up.. but in whatever language they didnt do too good!!
LateRooms - first let me say I have never had a problem with them before and have booked many hotels - mostly in the UK but some in Europe - without any problem. This time when the French guy phoned I gave him the dates, he checked with the hotel and said it was ok, he later confirmed in writing that the rooms were available. Later that day he phoned back to say they were not available .. then sent an email the context of which stated 'date the availability was made in Bayeux hotel were wrong so hotel call back and faxed a cancellation'.
Is there some special reason for asking?

WillTravel Feb 15th, 2006 10:05 AM

Screamer, thanks for the details. I asked because I've thought of using LateRooms, so was curious to hear about its reliability. It sounds like it's as good as the hotels' reliability.
