Barcelona Restaurants
My fiancee & I will be heading to Barcelona for part of our honeymoon in October. Can anyone recommend some good restaurants there? We're going to see a Flamenco show at Tablao Cordobes one night & we're not sure if we should have the dinner with the show - has anyone ever eaten there?
Thanks! |
chris,
Can't help with Tablao Cordobes, but one of the best places to find out about Barcelona is at; www.maribelsguides.com Maribel was a regular on this board at one time (she still drops in now & again)and many, many Fodorites have cause to be grateful to her for her advice on Spain in general. If you try the search function here you will find a lot of info. on restaurants on Barcelona. Jim |

We (3 plus baby) were in Barcelona last Oct and found two really great places to eat . . . the first was Hostal de Rita, Arago 279 (three blocks south towards Plaza Catalunya and one block east off Passeig Grácia).
We got there at 1:30 and there was a line 20 deep out the door . . . always a good sign. We waited in line about 15 minutes and we were glad we had waited. The food was outstanding and it was very nice inside, white linen tablecloths/napkins, crystal, efficient/fast waiters, nice choices of food. The menu del dia was 7.50 e. ($9.25) and included wine and dessert . . . it was not the usual chicken and fries, pork and fries, beef and fries . . . we had several really good choices. DD ordered the garbanzo bean salad and goulash; SIL ordered the tuna salad and a baked fish dish; I ordered the veggie soup and goulash (I know, I know, soup and stew but that's what I wanted and it was delicious . . . and I knew the baby would eat some). We all had wine (adults) and water (baby). Dessert was ice cream, mixed fresh fruits, or a puff pastry ball with orange cream inside and covered with chocolate. The second place, Restaurant Madrid-Barcelona, was across the street and owned by the same people and was a little more upscale. They did not have a menu del dia (went went at night) and I didn’t see anything on the menu that looked good (to me) . . . it was a lot of fish choices (I can't eat fish), with a few other dishes (lamb, rabbit, veal). DD and SIL liked the choices so I just decided to keep my mouth shut and order something. SIL ordered a salad and grilled fish; DD, the lamb with a dozen garlics; I, a veal chop with black olive paste. The salad was big enough for two and had egg, asparagus, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, onions, carrots. We all had a cheesy, scalloped potato dish, mine came with a grilled jalapeno pepper (was I in heaven or what!); DD’s dozen garlic was a head of baked garlic, which we both love. She had creme brulee for dessert, we all had two glasses of wine and this turned out to be a really, really good meal (50 e., $61.73) . . . and a bargain, to boot. Both of these were Rick Steves’ recommendations and I can say one thing for him . . . he knows his food! Have a great trip! Sandy (in Denton) |
Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for your advice. You gave me some great suggestions - I'll start my research ASAP! Thanks again :) |
Check out Tragaluz - it was fantastic!! Also can recommend L'Olive. Both were excellent! Have fun.

At the top of the 75M high cable car tower in the Barceloneta area there is one of the best restaurants in Barcelona, "Torre d'Alta Mar": http://www.torredealtamar.com.

Hi Chris,
Try Ca La Maria. The food is excellent and well priced. The owner (who will also be your waiter) is very charming and pleasant to speak with. Enjoy! |
Cal Pep is a must - however, arrive a little bit (like 15-20 minutes ) before they open and queue up; the place seats less than 20 along a granite bar and you just stand behind those eating and wait your turn. Its a blast - one of the top 50 restaurants worldwide - but you either get there early or prepare to wait and wait. yes, its worth it!

Just wanted to say a quick thank you to the new people who responded. I appreciate your suggestions!!!
