Back from Paris

Hello Fodorites!

We are just back from our annual anniversary weekend in Paris. We spent 4 days eating, drinking and enjoying the city.

We did notice a huge decrease in the number of tourists!! We always go to Paris for our anniversary weekend and it was really noticeable!!

We had a great time relaxing and enjoying the food and wine.

This is my album if Paris, the first 20 or so photos are from this trip.

Happy travelling!

Always lovely photos. I have never been to Paris (!) and it looks lovely even when gloomy.

StCirq Dec 8th, 2016 12:56 PM

Absolutely gorgeous photos.

Can't wait to see you in Venezia!

Jean Dec 8th, 2016 12:57 PM

I've heard from others that tourist numbers are way down.

Lovely pics!

gailscout Dec 8th, 2016 01:26 PM

Glad you had a great time; We'll be back in late February. Happy Anniversary!

Macross Dec 8th, 2016 02:01 PM

Wonderful pictures and Happy Anniversary.

Lilly2016 Dec 8th, 2016 02:43 PM

Wow your pictures are incredible... we are heading there Dec. 24-28 than London 29-jan 1..

do you recommend any Must see attractions or restaurants ?
and do you recommend we stay in Paris 25-59 than London 29-31 or 28-31 ? in other words an extra day in Paris?

Please LMK thank u

I agree that your photos are stunning. Your close up shots give me lots of ideas for next year. I must say though that the desolate, bare trees all lined up in a row is my favorite.

We were there in Sept. (Our usual time of year) and even though it was busy the tourists were definitely down from other years.

rialtogrl Dec 8th, 2016 05:03 PM

I always love your photos but this set... WOW. Stupendo.

Thank you for taking the time to post.

Jean Dec 8th, 2016 05:05 PM

"I must say though that the desolate, bare trees all lined up in a row is my favorite."

I especially liked that the trees are carefully trimmed so as not to grow into the trees on the opposite side.

Happy Anniversary, Jamie & Scott!

We have not visited Paris since 2013, the longest interval in many years, and are jonesing. Perhaps in the Spring..

cafegoddess Dec 9th, 2016 12:51 AM

Beautiful pictures, as always! Thank you.

Where is the wall with the whimsical art located?

aussie_10 Dec 9th, 2016 02:37 AM

Beautiful Photos, thanks for sharing.
Happy Anniversary!

DH and I are just back from our annual trip to paris as well. the weather was gorgeous, just a bit cold. I agree that tourism seemed down. very few Americans there. our plane going over was completely packed, but when we landed at CDG, I would say 80% went to the EU immigration side. we breezed through the non EU side. coming home, plane was less than half full (ah the good old days), and most went to the non US immigration line at JFK. interesting.
Paris was beautiful all dressed up for Christmas. the most stunning display was along the Rue St Honore, individual Baccarat chandeliers suspended across the Rue.
security was noticeable in the department stores. There are security people going through bags, and wanding folks as they enter. there are designated entrance and exit doors, and a lot of the entrance doors are permanently closed. Galleries Lafayette had only 2 entrances and exits available.
a salesperson we spoke to said sales are up compared to last year, but still not where they usually are.
we had a great time, great food, and wine, and basically relaxed.

Nikki Dec 9th, 2016 05:59 AM

i like the emphasis on shellfish, cheese, and pastries. That's a nice lens through which to view Paris.

jamikins Dec 9th, 2016 06:20 AM

Thanks so much for the lovely words everyone!

The wall with the art was around the corner from Rue de Buci.

Lilly, I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. I would pick the most economical option.

St Cirq, the countdown is on for Venice!!! Can't wait!

Enjoy the season everyone!

gomiki Dec 9th, 2016 07:12 AM

jamikins, your photos are gorgeous. May I ask what kind of camera you use? Fully realizing that it is not the camera but your eye and expertise. Thank you so much for posting them.

jamikins Dec 9th, 2016 07:18 AM

Thanks gomiki for the kind words :)

My camera is a D5200 from Nikon, I love it! Although some were taken on my iPhone!

KarenWoo Dec 9th, 2016 10:54 AM

Your photos are gorgeous! Not just because of your camera, but you also have a great eye for details and composition.

rialtogrl Dec 9th, 2016 11:12 AM

Totally off topic, but when you are in Venice consider a meal at Local. I've been twice for meals, more often for wine at the bar. Its pretty awesome. Unless something has changed they have a lunch menu for 25 euros but they just got written up in the NY times so maybe they don't have it anymore. They have a very interesting wine list too.

Here's the Times article.

Just beautiful, as always. Realized I'd wandered into a previous trip when handsome Bikerscott appeared in a tee shirt, sans beard. Thanks so much for sharing and Happy Anniversary!

welltraveledbrit Dec 12th, 2016 09:08 PM

I always enjoy your photos Jamikins - are you on Instagram?

menachem Dec 12th, 2016 10:53 PM

that's a great set.

yestravel Dec 12th, 2016 11:16 PM

Fabulous photos! I always love your photos. Thanks for sharing. We've been in Paris for the past 9 days and had really nice weather for this time of year. I agree that it appears tourism is down. Not really crowded anywhere and no problem getting dinner reservations.

We'll be in London in the spring and would love to meet up.

FuryFluffy Dec 13th, 2016 01:24 AM

Great photos jamikins. Time flies fast, I remember I saw your photos from your last Paris trip like yesterday. Today it's already another trip :)

LoriNY1: lovely. Glad you enjoyed your vacation in Paris.

angel1 Dec 13th, 2016 01:31 AM

Great photos! Got ideas for upcoming trip to Paris on Christmas.

PatrickLondon Dec 13th, 2016 10:34 AM

You have a great eye for the unusual angle. There's a restaurant and street scene or two I think I recognise in there - so the same hotel as you put me on to, I imagine?!

TDudette Dec 13th, 2016 12:56 PM

Happy Anniversary!

As always superb photos. The phone cameras are getting better and better, eh?

You guys don't get into too much trouble in Venice!

indyhiker Dec 14th, 2016 06:01 AM

Beautiful photos, as usual. Thanks so much for sharing!

jamikins Dec 14th, 2016 10:41 AM

Thanks everyone!

No, I am not on instagram, welltraveledbrit

Patrick, yes it is the same hotel!

Happy to meet up if you are in London yestravel!

PalenQ Dec 14th, 2016 02:49 PM

Yes a great scintillating set of snaps -I especially see a lot of mouth-watering foods, lots of booze and also could even smell those stinking French cheeses prominently featured. (My French son is dating an American who can't stand stinking cheeses - he thinks that this could be a sticking point in their future relationship-I side with the gal, and your pictures really activated by stink smell glands!)

Anyway loved the photos: as the French may say "Bravo"

Cheers!
