Auto europe car rental
Please everybody keep in mind that this company
charge you more than you see as a total cost! So be wary and don't get fooled by their low rates! They don't mention you about some fees before you pay them! |
Sorry, traveller87, but I have not found that to be true. What fees are you talking about? Did you not return the car with a full tank of gas? That can cost you a bundle. Please explain the charges you are referring to.
|
How very good of you to go to the trouble of registering just for the purpose of trashing a reputable company.
You've been reported. ((I)) |
I don't know what in the world you could be talking about. I was charged exactly what they quoted me, except for the fees that are calculated by the specific rental company you end up with, such as an additional driver and road taxes, but these are clearly identified on the AutoEurope voucher. I'm sure this is the same for any car rental agency.
|
Sorry, I agree with the other posters. I've NEVER had any type of trouble with AutoEurope, not on fees, cars, anything. I've used them on all our trips and will again this fall.
|
This is an extremely reputable company that many. many of us have used with no problems.
If you want your complaint to have any effect I think you're going to have to tell us what these "hidden" fees and costs were. |
Interesting first post. You had one experience with Auto Europe and claim to have been "fooled." I've rented more than 75 vehicles from them and never once had that experience. I wonder which one of us is right.
|
haven't we had a spate of weird first posts lately??
traveller87: unless you give us SOME idea what the heck you are talking about, how can anyone take you seriously? What extra fees? What type of rental? Where/when? Details, man . . . . . . |
In renting through AutoEurope at least a dozen times, I've never, ever had a single extra charge added.
And not to make light of someone who has trouble with the English language, but clearly traveller87 would not be great at reading a lot of English, so it might be understandable that he got charges he didn't expect or even understand. |
LOL, see what I mean? You trash this person without even knowing what the details are! Real helpful and insightful... YOU people are unbelievable... Oops... maybe you were only trying to be nice?
|
A few weeks ago there was a post about another car company named Auto Europa where posters reported add on charges. People were mixing it up with Auto Europe.
But - its still weird this is the only post ... |
I-J, I assume you aren't talking to me this time. I haven't trashed anyone, and the others mainly seem to be asking for the details and explanation so the original post could be intelligently discussed.
It is very clear that the poster is not very adept at the English language, so that was the reason of possible explanation of his post. If you call that trashing. . .? As usual, what the heck are you trying to say???? |
How's this?
"How very good of you to go to the trouble of registering just for the purpose of trashing a reputable company. You've been reported" "Interesting first post. You had one experience with Auto Europe and claim to have been "fooled." I've rented more than 75 vehicles from them and never once had that experience. I wonder which one of us is right" "haven't we had a spate of weird first posts lately?? traveller87: unless you give us SOME idea what the heck you are talking about, how can anyone take you seriously? What extra fees? What type of rental? Where/when? Details, man" Let me guess? those people are being helpful.. Right? |
And those are trashing the OP, how?
|
Ok I understand... They were just trying to help this person get a better answer from his post by telling him...
"You've been reported" "haven't we had a spate of weird first posts lately??" " don't know what in the world you could be talking about" " you claim to have been "fooled." I've rented more than 75 vehicles from them and never once had that experience. I wonder which one of us is right" I guess I was wrong. |
I'm guessing you have some sort of inferiority complex about travel compounded with a med problem....just a guess <<shrug>>
|
I wasn't one of the posters that called the OP a liar or weird?
|
Its just that this is the only place where people pay attention to her ...
|
I am a star here I guess?? I try to post a travel question and I am jumped on? I guess you all love me... you really really love me?... Aww chucks.
|
IDAHO JANE, in many years here, i have never, ever seen someone that truly needs a intervention of some kind, i mean that you are whacked enough that the rest of us should be worried. forget traveling, get yourself commited.
|
I for the life of me don't know what you are reading on this board? I have done nothing except post travel questions then, was attacked and called names! what would you do? I also questioned a post about how newbies should phase their questions and was attacked! If you can't see that then I am sorry. The truth is what it is.
|
IdahoJane, I'm sorry but it isn't very helpful to others on this site if a poster issues a warning about extra fees but doesn't give any details.
Since many people here have dealt with AutoEurope numerous times without incident, I think we are right to question traveller87's accusations unless some details are provided. |
<<I wasn't one of the posters that called the OP a liar or weird?>>
She has a point here... to her this would be a normal post by a normal person. I mean compared to her... |
Of course question them if more infomation is needed.. But call them a liar, weird or just plain wrong? how is that helpful??
|
"She has a point here... to her this would be a normal post by a normal person. I mean compared to her" Yea? what's your point? Go to Tripadvisor and read about the Ritz Paris.. 2 out of 10 guests had bad stays there in their opinion... Are they liars and weird? or did they really have a bad experiance? Because the other 8 had a wonderful time does that make the 2 wrong?? |
"I guess I was wrong."
I can hardly believe it. AT LAST a sensible post by this weirdo. You were indeed wrong, I-J!!! Thanks for finally admitting it. It's impossible to have a battle of wits with someone who is only half armed, but here goes anyway. The weird thing is that someone comes here and registers solely to post a slam against a company without a SINGLE example of what they are talking about. I'm sure to you that's NOT weird, but to the undrugged mind and the reasonable person -- YES, that is weird. |
Please try to read my last response. Your post has NOTHING to do with anything I said. I did not call him a liar, nor did I even suggest it. I merely tried to explain to the ignorant (whomever that might be) WHY the original post might be considered weird. And you try to claim that I'm calling him a liar? Can you even read English????
|
So you're saying it did happen to him but... it's weird he posted it?
|
Hi
Why not just ignore her postings instead of getting involved in her crude attempts to create a hostile environment. |
Listen and read carefully. I have no idea whether it really happened or not. Nor have I made any effort to suggest one way or the other. I was trying to explain that I agree with other posters that it is weird for someone to come here, register to post, and post a single slam against a company without a single specific complaint. It would be just as weird to register and post a slam about a restaurant saying just "don't go. It's a rip off" without saying anything specific, like they added a 25% service charge, or they charged $10 for a glass of water. What fees did Auto Europe add? What was not included in the prepaid contract? Without specifics a wild slam -- especially one written by someone without a command of the English language means nothing. I also tried to explain that since it's clear the poster does not have a good working ability of the English language, that it would be understandable if he didn't understand the contract or some of the charges. For example many of us know that Auto Europe offers two prices -- all inclusive of insurance and a basic price not including insurance. Perhaps this poster was attracted by the basic price but then accepted insurance at the time of taking the car? Until he comes back and gives us some specifics we will never know what his complaint was, will we?
Is that easier for you to comprehend? |
Got it. Thank you.
|
traveller87 came on and posted that "everybody keep in mind that this company charge you more than you see is total cost", without any details. It was a condemnation of the company WITHOUT any sort of explanation of what happened. Perhaps the error was on traveller87 and not fully understanding the contract; we'll probably never know.
The majority of responses were stating that they had NEVER had a problem with AutoEurope even though they had rented from them several times. I think that if the accusations of traveller87 were correct we would have heard about them beore today. Everybody grow some thicker skin! I cannot believe the trash talk since IdahoJane posted her response. I think the experiences that have been positive with this company GREATLY outweigh ANY complaints we've ever heard. To make a blanket condemnation such as traveller87 did deserves some criticism, questions, and statements of disbelief. I find it interesting that traveller87 has gone quiet and not offered any justification for their statements. IJ, I don't anybody was TRYING to be helpful to this person, they were looking for clarification and expansion of the charges. I don't think the majority of posters believe there was a problem, maybe a misunderstanding of what the charges wer going to be, but not a malicious act by AE. Just my opinion. |
Wow! Interesting thread in that everybody is getting so upset about this...I just want to add that I used to be a travel agent and have booked Auto Europe many times for my clients and several times for myself, and have never had a problem with hidden costs. They are totally clear and upfront about all charges. I just used them myself in France. Actually, I had booked Auto Europe, subsequently found a cheaper rate elsewhere on the internet, and then called Auto Europe to ask if they wanted to match the rate, which they did (after making sure the other rate was valid). The entire rental experience was positive (with Europecar, the supplier), and I even got a car upgrade that included GPS. Since I rented a cell phone from Auto Europe, I visited their offices to pick it up and drop it off. (They're located in my hometown.) It's a very reputable operation that has been in business a long time, and it does not deserve to be slammed without any real evidence of wrongdoing.
I can understand how people would be suspicious of a first-time poster slandering a company without offering any specific information to back up their claim. These boards are very powerful in terms of bringing business to various travel-related companies. I'm sure the posters that voiced their suspicion are only trying to minimize any abuse of the forum. |
There can be extra costs when you are with AutoEurope, but these are never (to my knowledge) BY AutoEurope. They are a broker and deal with several auto rental companies. I have heard of times when the rental car company has added extra charges. But that is the beauty of dealing with AutoEurope - they have some clout with these companies (who sometimes do have a reputation of being less than upstanding).
Two years ago we were chargesd a supplement by National (booked through AutoEurope) for a return to a railway station. Though it has since become a common practise, it was not in the ncontract. A quick phone call to AE and it was reversed immediately. (Neo - kudos for trying to reason with a dolt) |
Could it be the IJ and T87 are different manifestations of the same Evil Force?
T87, in a first and only post, slanders a reputable company. IJ leaps to defend with, "They were just trying to help this person get a better answer from his post by telling him..." despite the fact that there was no question. Will we, in a future episode, have T87 write in with a "Thank you" to IJ? Will the mysterious T87 and IJ turn out to be the parents of Darth Vader? Tune in next week for further adventures of Trashing Traveller from Idaho. ((I)) |
"I also questioned a post about how newbies should phase their questions and was attacked!'
"Questioned a post"???? That's like Jeffry Dahmer innocently saying, "I merely put a few things in the freezer for later and I got arrested!" |
My last contract with Autoeurope rental out of Zurich stated that a road tax of approx $2.50 per day would be assessed locally, as well as a winterization fee of $7.00 between 1 Dec and 31 Mar would be assessed locally. These fees were put on my credit card once I returned the vehicle.
When I rented in Italy, the agreement under "what's not included in this rental" stated a road tax would be assessed locally. I called autoeurope and they told me it would be about $2.50 a day, which it was. Maybe these are they types of fees traveller87 was referring to. ((b)) |
The point is that eventhough I mentioned that I would pick up and drop off the car from the airports in the different countries, in the traveler voucher they still imply that additional one-way and airport fees may apply. Also their final quoted rate does not include return fee for some reason.
So if those airports requires these kinds of fees and they have one-way fee, they must be written before the payment and reflected to the final quote (if they must be paid locally i still must have the opportunity to know them- i give them certain information and I want a certain prices from them!-) |
Auto Europe is a broker for a number of rental agencies, each with it's own set of rules. It is entirely possible that there was a miscommunication at some point, by anyone, that might have resulted in unexpected results. I personally don't feel the poster's first time posting status has anything to do with it. However, in multiple times renting through Auto Europe, I have had no such experience myself and feel sure that the OP's assertion that they use some sort of tactics to upcharge beyond their advertised rates is not true. Yes, it's true that people here don't have all the details, but as far as I know, the Fodor's message box certainly allowed for more room, in order for traveller87 to include more detail. There was room and time to create an account and post in order to offer a judgement of the company, but not enough room or time for the facts so that we could make our own? Possibly offer some advice on how to he/she might rectify the situation? Auto Europe has a well deserved reputation as an easy to work with company. It hardly seems fair to blast them but offer nothing to illuminate the reasons for that blast. |
Sorry traveller87, I hadn't seen your reply before I started typing mine.
You're correct - because they work with Hertz, Budget, Europcar and others, they sometimes do not have on hand the actual costs charged by those companies automated as part of the quote. As you said, they do indicate that you should expect these charges, even though they don't quote an amount at that time. However, it's been my experience that if you will be dropping in another country or at an airport, you can contact them and they will supply the figure you can expect to pay. I offer this, having done it first hand, not because there's anything to be done for your transaction at this point, but so that it might help future AE customers. Never ignore a statement that says that other charges will or may apply without finding out what those are. Note too that you would have paid these charges, even if you'd gone directly through the rental agency itself, as they are the ones charging the fees. Auto Europe, in general, will have negotiated a lower rental cost outside of the fees though, as that is what they do. |
