Proper sizing makes transportation and storage easier and lowers the price. When quirky shaped fruit and vegetables appear on the market, they are more expensive, not less.

I'm surprised you can do broccoli over the winter - anyway winter here has begun with a few inches of snow - typically it may not get above freezing for some weeks and often down to zero - no crops can survive unless an unusually mild winter then kale could.
