ATM PIN question - Urgent

Help - I just read on an old post that your 4 digit PIN cannot begin with a zero (for use in Italy). I sure hope that's not true, as mine does begin with 0. Anyone know?

My PIN begins with zero and it's worked in Switzerland, France and Russia. Went to Switzerland nearly ten years ago and Russia just this past June (same PIN all these years).

But has anyone used a PIN starting with a zero iin Italy? (Can't imagine why it wouldn't work, just concerned after reading the older post.)

I was told the same thing this week by my bank about multiple countries in Europe. Imade the changes via the 800 customer service #.

I just had to get my son a new ATM card after being pickpocketed in Italy. The Citibank people told me that the pin could not start with a O-anything else was okay.

Pegsima: Just change your PIN number and eliminate the possibility of any problems.

Agree with the advice to change your PIN if you can and you're worried about it.

Otherwise, find out when your bank does its "overnight processing" and note the time difference. Often ATM transactions are rejected because folks are attempting to make a withdrawal in Europe ("your bank did not approve this transaction" or something like that) when it's the middle of the night at "home" and the bank is off line for a few hours.

This happened to me on our first trip to Paris. I thought it was the PIN that started with zero (suggested by a fellow traveler). But, when I phoned the bank, they asked when I tried the card. Sure enough, I was going from ATM to ATM in Paris between 9-11AM, one day, then the next, just when "overnight processing" was taking place.

I have used several ATM cards with pin numbers starting with zero in Italy. They worked.

Bank of America says my ATM card is ok to use with PIN # starting with 0, as long as the machine is linked by STAR, PLUS, Interlink etc(whatever it says on the back of your card, however CITI(my credit card) just told me today that you cannot use a PIN starting with 0 or 1.

My card with beginning 0 worked without problem in Venice last Dec.
