To Stu T. Hi! I just looked at your pictures. Some of the Lisbon and Cotswold sites looked very familiar. Ah, nostalgia! Sintra looks beautiful. Now I want to go there. So how did Portugal stack up to all the other countries you've visited? I would like to know more about Belmonte. Sounds fascinating. We haven't left yet. We leave in 10 days. I still only have a very vague idea of our itinerary for the week we're based in St. Johann. We know we'll do daytrips to Salzburg and Munich. I know there's Eagles Nest and all the German castles and some lovely lake villages we should see. I just haven't sat down to come up with a plan that works-yet. Please email me if you have any suggestions. You know I trust your opinion. Hope Roz is back on her feet. I guess if you took your trip, she is! Have a safe and fun summer. I'll send pictures when we get back. Mary

For me, the sadness is that the shopkeeper felt he was being pushed out of "his" neighborhood.

Aduchamp, Goldenberg is mentioned in the link. It's been closed for the last 2 years.

Yes, I understand Goldenberg's is gone. They day we were there, there were many well dressed gentlemen with their "nieces."

plafield - If you are ever on 47th St in NYC, the same thing happens. There is a 'Mitzvamobile' where men are invited to go in and put on tefilin.

Where can I send him a fountain pen?

tower - We visited the 'Secret Jews of Belmonte' in 2000. Its continuance looked precarious to me, even after 5 centuries of their secret practice. I am so glad to read that it is still there.
