Arnhem or enkhuizen
Arnhem or Enkhuizen Open Air Museum. I am leaning towards Enkhuizen but I could make either work.
|
Either is good, but if you are going to Texel Enkhuizen makes more sense. It may be the busier of the two.
|
Enkhuizen. I know both, but I think Enkhuizen is more compelling.
|
thanks, that settles it

I've visited both, Arnhem several times, and would be hard pressed to choose. The Arnhem museum has buildings representative of the entire country, while Enkhuizen's are all from the IJsselmeer/Zuider Zee area and give a good impression of day to day life there in the past. I don't think you will be disappointed in your choice.

The one thing that to me speaks again Arnhem's set up is its fragmentary nature. It's a huge park, but you can use its restored tram service. And also, I find it weird to see buildings transplanted from their original landscapes to a wooded park.
The feel of Enkhuizen is more organic, village like, although there too, different building styles from all over the former Zuiderzee are present. And there's more re-enactment in Enkhuizen, which can be a pro or a con, depending what you think of it. |
Been to both open-air museums and found Enkhuizen's (on the old Zuider Zee) nicer and Enkhuizen as a town nicer than Arnhem though both are neat.
Arnhem is way out of your other wish list places. |
