One chain that I love in Paris is Pain Quotidien. I believe it started in Belgium. There are also several in New York and LA. I do wish it would open in Chicago!

Don't folks know that travelguru1 is doing a high school psychology study, getting reactions to various vapid questions.

Last quarter, McDonalds had more revenue from Europe than from the US. I never would have guessed.

Europe has, depending on the definition of Europe, between 30 and 50% more population than the USA. Since it is well known that bad habits catch on easily, higher McD revenues from Europe ar eonly to be expected. Sad but true.

Europe as a whole has two and a half times the population of the US.

In the UK Fish and Chip shops outnumber McDogs by 8 to 1, and I imagine the figure would be higher for Indian and Chinese restaurants as well as kebab houses, pretty much all privately owned.

You have more competition for cheap oily pap over there as well.

We saw our first in Rome and did not realize that it was chain. In NYC there are a few now and they make wonderful breads and fabulous brownies. The help is as confused as at any chain.

It is from Belgium or what I call Belch.

Aduchamp1,
When we went to New York we discovered a Pain Quotidien near Central Park and ended up eating breakfast there almost every day :-) Wonderful pain chocolat!
