Applauding a movie - now, that's interesting. I've never heard that happen. (All right, sheltered life...)
|
I've heard applause at two movies: first, when I was a young kid, at the end of the Sound of Music (the movie had an intermission and the theatre also sold full color programs, boy have things changed).
second, after Fahrenheit 9/11. Re planes, the only time I've heard applause upon landing was at the end of a very long, VERY turbulent flight. |
I'm pretty sure I've been on a couple of flights where there was applause upon landing. The only one I can place though is the AirTran flight about 3 yrs ago where the engine caught fire before we made it to Dulles and we were re-routed to Newport News, Virginia. We touched down with fire trucks and other emergency vehicles chasing down the runway along either side of us. I remember that one getting some major applause, even if we were in the wrong city. Now I can laugh at the fact that the guy next to me, mid-approach and in a moment of buyer's remorse, was the first person to let in on the fact that AirTran used to be called Value Jet. Oh my.... I've never been to a movie where the audience clapped though, at least not yet. |
Everytime I visit Madrid I love to go watch a movie in one of the large cinemas in Gran Via. These theaters are renmants of the magnificent public theaters where wonderful zarzuelas were performed and flamenco shows were first authorized to be offered to a public in Madrid. Superb renovation works. Well, if you go on a Sunday, to this day you will witness the ladies in very nice attire and jewerly and the gentlemen in suits. At the end of the movie, the audience always clap very politely, just like it was a wonderful play. The funniest thing. I would never think of watching "What Women Want" (Mel Gibson), "Miss Congeniality" (Sandra Bullock), and "Shall We Dance" (Jennifer Lopez) as a cultural experience, until it happenned to be in a Madrid's Gran Via cinema.....:-D

How strange! I've been at any number of films where the audience applauded at the end, but always because it was a great film and they were moved to express their appreciation.

Well, a lot of people clapped at the end of Wallace & Grommit the other night =D>

That was us, Scarlett -- we're big fans! :-D
