My sister and I stayed in one of the studios (I believe there are two, actually) on via dei Cappellari that Barb mentions. I remember thinking that those apartments would work well for a larger group too. Have you explained what you're looking for to Tim at realrome, Michael at rentalinrome, Giulia at sleepinitaly? :D

Also, do you all really need to have your apartments that close together? A 5-10 minute scamper across the Campo o rthe the Corso or wherever wouldn't be such a big deal to people in their 20s, would it?

Good luck!

No, I don't care if it's a 10 minute walk between apartments. I just don't want to have to go a mile and use public transportation to see each other.

I requested info about the Residenzagiubbonari Apts. They are absolutely perfect for what I want except more $$$ but at this point I can't be choosey. I've contacted Sleep in Italy, Rental in Rome, and sent a message to Tim at Real Rome but haven't heard back yet. Is there a reason why so many apartments don't have satellite TV?

zeppole Aug 18th, 2008 06:49 PM

Most renters don't go to Roma to watch TV.

Leely2 Aug 18th, 2008 06:56 PM

Now that I've read more about your group, I think you and the other mom should get your own (luxury!) apartment. And the kids can stay down by the river.

Have patience--it will work out. Won't be perfect, but it will work out. I am a pretty fast walker and live in a city and walk everywhere, so I'm not the best person to advise about what's close--I think everything is close. Honestly, I didn't think the San Gallo apartments were in a bad location, just not smack-dab in the middle of things.

How long are you in Rome and what season?

They are so happy to be going to Rome they don't care where they stay. Probably sleeping in the Termini would be fine with them. I will be there from Nov. 6 - 13th. My son from NY will leave with his girlfriend on the 12th and I'll have my Vegas son and his friend stay with us the last night. I also want them with me the last night so I can make sure everyone's ready to go to the airport in the morning. Four years ago, my NY son was to meet me at JFK and we were to fly to Paris together. I was coming from Indianapolis alone and he was coming from Albany. I had never been to Europe before. This is the child that is not known to leave early for anything and missed his flight to Paris. I was sitting on the runway talking to him on his cell phone as he was going into the parking garage at the airport. I actually remained calm (for me) and he got the next flight and I met him the next morning at the Paris airport. But that kind of nonsense to me is ridiculous and so my attitude is - see ya - hope you can make it over there and I'll continue on. I am surprised at times that I have survived my children :)

Are the bathrooms in the Cappellari Apts accessible to everyone or do you have to go through a bedroom to get to it?

Leely2 Aug 18th, 2008 08:03 PM

I only stayed in the studio, but realrome has a handy availability calendar and, alas, those that Barb mentions are not free for your dates.

A poster on this board, Kristina I think, stayed in the Accetti Palace apartment listed on rentalinrome recently. I'd look to see if it's available as it's big and they have a few within a few blocks of there as well. I wanted it for Xmas but it was taken!

Barb Aug 19th, 2008 09:16 AM

Sorry the Cappellari apts. are booked, but if you contact Tim at realrome and tell him that Barb told you to talk to him, I'll bet he will find you something. He is a good friend and so easy to work with. You might not be able to get something for all of you together, but I agree with Leely, maybe you and your friend should get something nice in the Navona/Campo area and let the kids stay in Trastevere - they will love it there.

Have you tried the Domus Julia? It's the apartment annex to the Hotel Julia, and breakfast is included (served in the hotel's lovely breakfast room). They have unique and flexible configurations of rooms.

My daughter and I had a twin room, with a lovely, large, relatively new bathroom en suite. We had a large dining room/kitchen, also, which was shared with the other bedroom (but it was vacant). We didn't cook there, though.

The hotel is adjacent, and I suppose you could get one hotel room, then share the dining facilities with others in the Domus Julia. Lots of options there, I think.

It's located near the top of the Spanish Steps, below the Barbarini (sp?) Palace. We loved the location. Walked to Trevi, Piazza Navonna, took the subway to the Vatican and Colosseum.

I remembered another place I wanted to book really (really) badly. It was one of the Giulia apartments on romepower. A poster here, jamikins, stayed there with extended family and gave it high marks. I believe romepower had more than one apartment in the immediate vicinity. It was a little more than I wanted to spend for my trip given the Christmas surcharge but might work for your group.

Very likely booked, but since you said you wanted something a little nicer...I saw these in a NYT article.

By the way, the two apartment I was thinking of for your group on romepower are Moon and Giulia.

(Yes, I have been through the Rome apartment hunt a few times.)

I've found 2 apartments in the same bldg, and two other ones close together. They're by the Piazza dei Mercani, near Lungotevere Ripa and Via del Porto. AND they're all available and not real expensive. What do you think?

travelfan1 Aug 20th, 2008 03:10 AM

I may have missed it, but have you thought about a larger apartment for your entire group? Here's a 4 bedroom: http://www.romepower.com/eng/rome-lo...287.html#photo

Vttraveler Aug 20th, 2008 03:27 AM

The Piazza Mercanti is in Trastevere, right near Sta Cecelia in T, a beautiful church. It would be easy to walk across the Tiber or walk over to Viale Trastevere to catch a tram. The #23 bus would get you pretty easily to/from the Vatican area. An interesting part of the city.
This thread talks a lot about that part of Trastevere including Via dei Genovesi which is very near the apartment you are considering
