Nice to see that this post has generated different opinions, but generally the tone has been civil. I wonder if that would be the same if the post was "Anyone NOT like Venice." I personally didn't care for Venice unlike the majority here. After one day I was ready to leave. Unfortunately, spent three nights there. Anyone else agree?

To Anon and John: First of all, Anon, (and I'm not trying to be rude but) why didn't you make a reservation for the Uffizi so you could just walk in? Your hotel could have made if for you and you could have made it. The Accademia is the same. I've been there at the worst high tourist time and never been rushed through. Now, John, we had an apartment and wandered the streets. Went to museums that most people don't go to. We made friends with local merchants and went into areas that tourists don't go to.

Patrick, I am surprised that you allowed yourself to be pushed through the museum. You could step out of line and let other people pass you by while you look at any item. You seem too savvy to lockstep with the crowds.

Oops; noticed that I was waxing rapsodasical about walking along the Arno to Trastevere! Should be Oltrarno, obviously.... Love them both - the point is that they are neighborhoods outside of the tourist center.

Sorry xxx I can't agree with you about Venice. I think it's magical. It's all how you look at it. My husband and I took a walk at the crack of dawn. No one out, just us and the mist. I love Venice.
