Antwerp or Brussels?

We are trying to decide between Antwerp or Brussels for a one-day trip while we have a free day on our cruise Opinions? Too short to do anything significant, but we still need to choose.

If you like museums, I'd choose Antwerp. Otherwise, I'd choose Brussels. But if I could ask for more choices, I'd prefer either Ghent or Bruges, which can be reached by train easily from Brussels (though that would probably eat up too much time).

Thank you, Andrew. We are going to both Ghent and Bruges. We love walking around Bruges and we are really looking forward to seeing the Altarpiece in the cathedral.

Bruxelles is absolutely great, Antwerpend is quite nice too.
I agree that Gent is quainter than both and easier.
Brugge is - for me - a gem to see once or twice. Now I only go there with tourist friends !

Brussel has some great museums, beautiful Grand Place.
Antwerp is smaller, easier to see in a day.

Do you have an interest in anything in particular? Antwerp has the Rubens House, but also a fashion museum, and some good modern architecture. Without knowing your interests, it's a bit difficult to recommend one over the other.

Also, what time of year is this? If you're docking in Zeebrugge and the weather is good, you could also cycle along the coast, have a nice lunch somewhere, go to Damme.

Oh ! I forgot to be rude : in Bruxelles people speak a normal language, French !

(Tulips do you know the joke of the Flamingant who tells his Walloon friend that Flemish is THE national language in Belgium. Walloon agrees and says 'yes, the other 2 are international languages').

Ik had al lang onderweg moeten zijn, tot later !
