Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations
For those fans out there, there will be a new episode on Monday from Tuscany.
Thanks, Sandi! Now that we have TIVO, I can tape it, since the good tv is otherwise in use for Yankee baseball!
What network is that on? Thanks!
wlisl, it's on the Travel Channel.
Thanks Sandi, I've set my DVR. :-) |
How does a man who loves food that much still smoke cigarettes?
He definitely has quite a following, but I find him boorish and a bit full of himself. Just MHO.
Plenty of major chefs in Europe and elsewhere smoke cigarettes. Plenty of them are hard-drinking, whoring bastards, too. I personally don't care as long as they remain impassioned about their food. Americans are so judgmental about the small stuff....and so oblivious to the big picture. I don't give a rat's behind if Tony smokes. I'd sure like us to get out of Iraq with a shred of international dignity, though.
wanderlust- i tend to agree with you. but recently i saw an episode of his show where they were 'trapped' in beirut when the conflict broke out last year. it was really interesting.
he also did a great show about peru. i lived there for a few years, so that country has a special place in my heart. i will watch the tuscany show since i'll be travelling there next month - can't have too many recommendations! |
I don't like his show--he comes across as trying too hard to be cool and he wears his pants too high--but dang! he is HOT. Yowza. Someone get me a fan.
So, yes, I watch for that reason. |
I like his show too. He had a really interesting one Bourdain in Beirut that took place during the Beruit bombings last summer. He never did get to cover food ,more about him being there and getting out. Anyway I too will set the dvr for the Tuscan episide.
Laartista, that was a really interesting show and I'm glad he decided to air it. What an ordeal Tony and his crew went through!!
I liked the episode in South Korea. His assistant was so vivacious and seemed to get the best of him -- I loved it!
He's not only good to look at (and very entertaining/funny) but he's a good writer, too. Have read (actually re-read) all of his books & recommended them to friends.
I wish I had known about the South Korea show...I would have liked to see him eat the live octopus I had to sample a few months ago! And the horse meat sashimi! He probably ate the dog meat as well!
He IS a good writer and he also knows his way around a kitchen..I think he is single now, too! |
I believe he isn't single any more...and has a new baby :)
Margy |
Are you guys pulling my leg that you find him good looking??
Funny, hell yes! Entertaining,Very. Good looking, No way. But that's subjective. I've always had a huge crush on Charlie Rose, so who am I to say.
Not kidding. He has the same kind of snarky intelligent sense of humor that makes me lust him, and Bill Maher too.
Love Bill Mahr! But not good looking either. LOL
You KILL me! You are very funny and make me laugh out loud. Anthony, in my opinion, is definitely not good looking (I'll try to be diplomatic so won't say anything further about his appearance) but he is quirky - I'll give you that!
“How does a man who loves food that much still smoke cigarettes?”
Kind of like wearing dark sunglasses to a Matisse exhibit? (I kind of think StCirq missed your point ) |
Don't watch him too often but I like his looks, too.
Beauty in in the eyes of the Beholder..I find him an interesting character.
He could be the Poster Child of a Typical Newyorker, brashy, cocky , very sure of himself. I enjoy watching his shows and in his own way, he has a lot of Sex appeal.. |
typo error..beauty is(not in)
I like him, but only in limited doses. A while back, one of the travel channels (in the UK) ran an AB marathon. After the third episode, his shtick became less entertaining and more irritating. He's the Richard Quest of travel show hosts.
I love it when the Travel Channel runs an AB marathon. You really feel like you've been somewhere at the end of one of his shows. They're not about food so much, more about life in another culture, like Globetrekker. And I agree - the guy's hot.
While I do not agree that he is good looking (doesn't really matter, anyway) and find his personality grating he is witty and intelligent. And a brilliant writer. And he does go to interesting destinations. And is an adventurous eater like I am. It is still not enough to make me watch an entire episode - just cannot sit through it! Sorry, girls. I have tried, though!
Give me Tyler Florence - he is a totally different story. |
Now you're talking. Tyler Florence-yummy!
Thank you for the heads up on the new show. I absolutely love the show and, personally, I find Anthony Bourdain smoking hot. :S-
I'm a fan of AB and his show. As far as whether he's "good looking," I don't know if I'd go that far. He's not conventionally handsome, but he's definitely very *sexy* -- it comes more from his intelligence, confidence, general attitude.
Florence Tyler is an adorable Teddy Bear and is the epithome of how an American boy should look, at least that is the way that people of different countries imagine when they think about Americans.
Comparing these two is like comparing Chamomille tea versus Espresso. One is calm, relaxed, friendly, the other is witty, noisy full of Pep. |
"that is the way that people of different countries imagine when they think about Americans."
I thought they imagined Michael Moore. Just kidding. |
Tyler Florence is the fantasy. Michael Moore is the reality.
Tyler is the teddy bear, beginning to get a little overstuffed but cute as hell. Anthony is the polar opposite but somehow intriguing in a slightly dangerous and seductive way. Plus he's funny and does find a way to stop down and really "get" what he's seeing or doing.
Ha ha - overstuffed. Funny.
Still don't see any sex appeal in Tony but what the heck? Not everyone can! I do appreciate the fact that he is not presumptuous - hate that trait. Met Jamie Oliver last year - very nice and down to earth. |
Oh, Jamie Oliver, he's my favorite. Even better than Tyler.
I never cared about Jamie..
Overstuffed, yes the cute Teddy bear is getting chubbier everyday..What a pity because he is such adorable little boy..:) |
Don`t find AB attractive at all. His clothes always seem dirty to me, especially his jeans.
OMG, Yes, it IS the jeans thing and they are tapered too!
He has that typical 80's rock star attire. I know, I married one. I mean what man wears tight cut off jeans as shorts on national TV? Love his vintage Tshirts though. I really like Jamie Oliver too, what a sweet little lisp.
