First of all, this is the first time I've responded to anyone, so I don't know who you are trying 'to make fun of'? Second, thanks to all the people who are adults and have responded like an adult, I will take your advise over my friends and not worry about the food, for I have been throughout europe and have never even come close to not liking any of the food that is being offered. Being that it is my first time in Holland, and your friend says it is not good, you never know? Which is why this is here to ask! Next, it is just a simple question...how bad/good is the food is the food? That's it, simple enough, answer the question or not! If your not writing about how much you liked/disliked the food, then get out of here and go to the next question! Sorry my subject line had '!' instead of '?' And thanks to all the stoners, for you all make me laugh, and your right, in the end, I'll probably just want to eat!

As an Amsterdamer, I agree with your friend that there are many bad restaurants. The good news is that most of them are located in the "tourist belt" roughly between Central Station via Damrak to Leidseplein. There are many young backpacker tourists in Amsterdam who are more interested in price than in quality, so there is a market for relatively cheap places with mediocre food. The good news is that there are many excellent restaurants of all nationalities also, but please ask advice and most of these restaurants are a little outside the main tourist areas. Enjoy your trip!

I am a serious Foodie who lives to eat and definately travels to eat. I was very contemptous of my traveling companion who brought a big bag of Baby Ruths w/ her to Amsterdam.<BR><BR>ON the second day of eating(trying to eat) in Amsterdam, I would have killed her for one of those candy bars.<BR><BR>However, I was nice and thin when we got to Paris!

Hey --one persons crap is another person's delicacy. If you have traveled the world (or at least Europe) Travis, you should know that. You can't be dumb enough not to knowe that heading would incite. Come on!! <BR><BR>The food there is good--especially fresh fish. But I found it expensive. The pastries were great too. The food is, in my opinion, not as good as France or Italy. But in my opinion McDonalds and Babe Ruths are crap!!

I remember having these lovely croquettes that they sold in vending machines! They were scrumptious and cheap! I was on a student's budget at that time. 3 or 4 cpold really fill you up

In a week in Amsterdam we had a couple of bad meals, but mostly good meals. We sampled many ethnic restaurants: Italian, Indonesian, and Greek. One day for lunch we found a cute restaurant selling nothing but crepes with many different fillings. Give it a chance. If you don't care for the food go to a market, but for heaven sake, do not load down your suitcase with food bars.

Is there such a thing as Dutch food? Everyone mentions all kinds of food but never Dutch.

Years ago I ate lunch at a Mcdonald's in Amsterdam. My children were young and not with me, so I saved a package of "frits sauce" to take home to them, thinking it was ketchup. It was mayonnaise. Yuk! Unless the food has improved, Amsterdam food is not very good. That lunch at Mcdonald's was one of the more memorable food experiences from that trip.

The sister-in-law of a friend of a colleague's boss says that the food is crap.
