Keith: I had the same feeling about Sao Paulo. Having recently visited South America (Buenos Aires) for the first time, I was pleased they were going to Brazil (a possible future destination for us), but was disappointed all we saw was the tops of a "million" skyscrapers, awful traffic and some rather seedy neighborhoods. I know there's a great deal more there than that, just sorry we didn't see it!

Agree that this is a pretty good group, but wish the screaming sisters had come in last.

Anyone see the "ever popular" couple, Rob and Amber, on the CBS morning show? I disliked them so intensely I had to change channels, so don't really know what it's all about, other than they are babysitting some kids. Obviously they would be fabulous role models for three young minds! LOL

Kippy Mar 1st, 2006 08:12 AM

Now this is just plain unfair.

In all innocence I starting reading this thread - What amazing race?

Now I want to watch it.

Problem -

I live in the UK

Ho Hum

Keith Mar 1st, 2006 08:33 AM

Kippy,

If you wish to learn anymore about it, you can see clips from the race, still photos and the entire story line at http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race9/

You can read about each episode on the website if you're out of the country. I want the nerdies to win. I don't care for the mom and daughter or the two sisters. I also liked the African American couple because they tried to help the old folks, who I also like, but they better stop giving up so much! I liked the pair that got kicked off--if nothing else for what an odd match they are...and their Genie antics :) Saw them this morning on a news show. Goofballs

abbynicole27 Mar 1st, 2006 08:38 AM

So glad the show is back!

Pet peeve:
Why can't they ever put an older couple on that is worth rooting for? I don't care if they don't do well at the physical stuff, but please pick an older couple with some smarts!! I like them - but I just can't bring myself to pull for a team that could walk past the clue box that many times and not see it.

TamaraEden Mar 1st, 2006 08:43 AM

LOL Abby, I somehow missed that part. I think I was chatting on line or something ;) I did see when they found it, and started feeling defeated. I noticed the pair that got booted also felt defeated too early.

Hint, if you give in, you will be gone.

JJ5 Mar 1st, 2006 08:44 AM

abbynicole27, do I hear you on that one. It can't be peers of their own age picking these older people.

Joelleinitaly04 Mar 1st, 2006 11:02 AM

I was glad they made the rule about not being able to make reservations by phone. It is a race...

HELLO Again,
I was so excited yesterday,my husband think I am crazy, but I absolutly love the show, had been watching all reruns since summer.
This looks like a good bunch, the hippies are funny, like barbie and ken ,the friends from my town, Fort Lauderdale, the black couple and the older one.
Hate the screamers the must.
Sao Paolo is a very industrial city, nothing to show the natural beauty of Brazil other places.

jules4je7 Mar 1st, 2006 11:23 AM

Giovanna -- I Brazilian and American, I've lived for a year in Sao Paulo, and it is one of THE most densely packed cities in the world, in a country where poverty is rampant. As a result, SP has lots of a "million" skyscrapers, awful traffic and some rather seedy neighborhoods.

The good news is, it is still a great city to visit, and the rest of the country has its fabulous points as well.

Happy travels.

Jules

Have to jump in here with my opinions:

The Glamazons (sisters) alternate between cracking me up and jangling my nerves.

The tension between Lake and his wife and Monica and her boyfriend (Barbie and Ken) provides that conflict that the show needs, although some of the sniping is going to get irritating.

Sad to see the team elimated go - I wanted John to clean out more of his "fear closet", but hopefully this will open the door for him. To go from not flying in eight years to an international flight AND a helicopter ride is a good start.

Hippie guys are hilarious.

The pretty boys from Florida are irritating. Can't stand the attitudes and their "duh" mentality.

Pink girls add some entertainment, if nothing else to see if they are truly annoyed by the pretty boys or if they'll enjoy their attentions.

Ray and his girlfriend are cool, and work together really well - I like the mutual respect for each other.

Older people are pretty amazing, according to their bios - the woman has climbed all 54 of Colorado's 14000+ moutains!

Mother and daughter are annoying, I think their attitudes are a little much.

But my FAVORITE couple is the "nerds". They are hilarious! Did anyone see their little secret handshake in the back of the taxi? Or when David proclaimed, "I'm really good at taking tests". They are great!

Can't wait for next week!

Zeus Mar 1st, 2006 11:30 AM

I find the two Hippies quite annoying. They remind me of Shields and Yarnell for some reason. I half expect them to start performing street theater in Downtown Sao Paolo.

Does anybody else find the formula for this show a bit annoying? It's always a gay couple, two "hotties", two old farts, two African-American Yuppies and a husband-wife team with a bullying husband. Aren't there any other types of folks out there? How about an Asian couple or a couple of Ukranian Jews? Come to think of it, at least the Hippies are unique.

Travelnut Mar 1st, 2006 11:36 AM

Well, other than race/ethnicity, there aren't that many combinations...
younger
older
married
dating
friends
related
gay

Guess they could select individuals then randomly pair them just prior to filming. That would be interesting.

ceb1222 Mar 1st, 2006 11:37 AM

Zeus - I totally agree. I was just thinking that last night... Do the casting directors have specific "slots" they want to fill???

Keith Mar 1st, 2006 11:38 AM

I still want to see an AR with teams from several countries.

Keith

tower Mar 1st, 2006 07:05 PM

The screaming mimi's have got to go...the Amazonian sisters, that is. Annoying as hell. I hope they get lost in a Carpathian snowstorm and end up with a lonely shepherd in his remote hut for the winter. Yeeeaaah!

Stu T.

TamaraEden Mar 1st, 2006 07:31 PM

LOL Stu, so loving you are!

Kippy Mar 2nd, 2006 12:58 AM

Thanks Keith,

Now I can see what you are all excited about! It's probably just as well it doesn't show over here or I would be hooked too!

Enjoy

tower Mar 2nd, 2006 07:49 AM

Tamara...we are, indeed, AR fans from the very beginning..great travelogue.

Pete1222 Mar 2nd, 2006 10:12 AM

Hey, this is Pete1222's 15 year old daugter (he mentioned me before)... my dad is so annoying and won't even enter for the race; do me a favor, guys, and work on him for me. (If nothing else, he and his buddy or maybe my mom could see behind the scenes and get you all the inside scoop).

Anyway, DejaVu, I went the 80's route and taped the show as well... just finished watching it and the screamers have got to go. I have a migrane just thinking about them. I agree with Tower's punishment for them. (Lol)

NERDS all the way! I go to school with people who are gonna be like them in a few years and let me tell you, they are awsome. ;-)

"They end up this series in Milwaulkee. My sister and Brother-In-Law were there in Sept and saw the filming. They won't tell me anything though"

According to wikipedia, they started filming Amazing Race 9 in November '05.

rbs1175 Mar 2nd, 2006 12:18 PM

I just found this posting and LOVE IT. We are big fans of the Amazing Race. I think this season has a lot of funny teams...No need to be hard on the "hippies" they are funny and I do believe will play dirty. The "nerds" are my favorite right now, they know they are nerdy and that makes them cool. They seem to get along very well and that will be an advantage. Did anyone catch the comment MOJO's team made towards Lake..calling him Scott Peterson....PLEASE TELL ME SOMEONE HEARD THIS REMARK????

DownUnder Mar 2nd, 2006 12:36 PM

Premiered last night Seven Network 9.30pm. in Australia. Seems like they travel Down Under this time according to station promos.

dkw Mar 2nd, 2006 12:40 PM

>>According to wikipedia, they started filming Amazing Race 9 in November '05.<<

Well let's see.... the Rolling Stones Concert was on September 8th in Milwaukee, so unless my sister was lying about seeing the Amazing Race in Milwaukee, wilkipedia is wrong.

rbs,

Yes, I also heard the Scott Peterson remark and commented to my husband about it. ( There is a slight resemblance in both temperment and looks)

DKW

rbs1175 Mar 2nd, 2006 12:47 PM

DKW~

My fiance and I looked at each other regarding that comment and my jaw dropped. That is a big insult in my opinion, maybe when he watches THE RACE back he'll change his attitude a bit.....

What great TV...can't wait to see what happens next.

dkw Mar 2nd, 2006 12:58 PM

RBS,

I have to say, the comment made me laugh out loud. It seemed spot on! I agree that calling someone Scott Peterson is about as big an insult as you can throw at them!!!

Sorry, AM9 wasn't filming yet in September. Draw your own conclusions...

Giovanna Mar 2nd, 2006 01:28 PM

Jules: Thanks for your comments. I didn't mean to imply that there's nothing positive in Sao Paolo, just that I was disappointed not to see some of those positives. This certainly would not deter me from visiting though, as my husband is very interested in seeing Brazil. I'm sure it is a very interesting diverse country. We met a lovely Brazilian couple at Cafe Tortoni in BsAs. They shared a table with us during a tango show. They spoke excellent English so we were able to visit (we manage in Spanish, but have no knowledge of Portuguese). Very enjoyable evening.

Melnq8 Mar 2nd, 2006 01:50 PM

I live in Indonesia and thanks to AXN we get the Amazing Race here - it comes on the day after it airs in the US and I'm seriously hooked.

FYI - They're currently seeking contestants for an Amazing Race Asia. Don't know if it will air in the US, but should add to our limited TV programming in this part of the world.

CiCi Mar 4th, 2006 09:39 PM

Again, as in past shows it is totally crucial to get a good taxi-cab driver. That's always the wild-card that no one has control over. And again it is very helpful to have somewhat of a grasp of the local language. I wonder if the contestants try picking up a smattering of many languages before they actually leave on the race???

EnricoIV Mar 7th, 2006 01:21 AM

CiCi -- Teams don't know where they will be going, so there's no knowing what langueage they should learn.

>>Well let's see.... the Rolling Stones Concert was on September 8th in Milwaukee, so unless my sister was lying about seeing the Amazing Race in Milwaukee...<<

Wikipedia's dates are correct. The race began filming on November 7th in Denver. A confirmed sighting of teams headed back to the U.S. (I won't say where they were or where they were going) confirms the ending date of December 3.

They will still be in Brazil for the next episode deeper into the interior, it appears.

They will be in Australia -- in the west this time. Japan will be a new destination.

Keith -- the only time they've had a roadblock in the first leg of the race was the very first season. And it was edited out, anyway.

Keith Mar 7th, 2006 04:14 AM

The producers provide so much extra web and DVD material. I wonder why they never provide the complete rules?

Keith

Barbara Mar 7th, 2006 06:25 AM

Because the rules are tweaked with every new season.

Keith Mar 7th, 2006 06:32 AM

Not to be argumentative, but so are the rules for football, but they still publish them.

Keith

Barbara Mar 7th, 2006 07:25 AM

Pretty soon football rules will be like Encyclopedia Brittanica!

For TAR, Wikipedia has the rules, but as you say, they've never been published by TAR. If you click this link, beware of possible spoilers.

Keith Mar 7th, 2006 11:55 AM

Wiki isn't very trustworthy. Anyone can post there and it presents the opinions of the last person to make an entry.

We can go there and post what we think the rules are and that is what the next person visiting the site will see.

Keith

Zeus Mar 7th, 2006 12:21 PM

What Keith said. That's the whole MO of Wikipedia.

dkw Mar 7th, 2006 01:50 PM

Well, I stand corrected.....I guess my Sister is crazy :) It wouldn't have been the first time she got something wrong!!! But in her defense, I did see an actual photo of Mick Jagger she took (from the back, but it was most assuredly him).

Barbara Mar 7th, 2006 02:19 PM

Then, Keith, if it's so important to you, why don't you write to the producers of the show, because you're just going to complain about anything else. Bottom line is, they don't ahve to tell YOU the rules because YOU are not competing.

Keith Mar 7th, 2006 02:30 PM

Dear Barbara, I knew I probably shouldn't have "but so..." the first time :-), but the second one I couldn't possibly resist. Wiki is one of my pet peeves - in part because I keep catching people uploading my pictures to the site.

Thanks for the replies.

Keith
(Hoping to see some real sights on tonight's show, not just congested cities and airports)
