Hi Sassafrass - thank you for your note and the link. Although I had initially thought hiring a private guide (1:1) for me and my husband, was the way to go, your link has me rethinking that. The info contained in the link certainly gives the impression that a self service/diy visit to Pompeii is very doable.

Hi All - another question I’m hoping someone can help answer. We will be staying at San Montano resort for 3 nights. Does anyone have an opinion on whether or not the half board option is the way to go or are we better off just “paying as we go”?

thank you,

shelley

I should have included that San Montano resort is on the island of Ischia.

Hello All - I’m finalizing our trip plans and have a Q for the Fodorites. In Rome, does anyone have an opinion(s) on Hotel Albergo del Senato vs Argentina Residenza? I’m having a difficult time deciding between the 2 mostly because they both get great reviews. I know a lot of the Rome Fodorites with experience of the area really like Albergo del Senato but I’ve not seen as much on Argentina. Was hoping someone could provide pro’s/con’s from personal experience.
We will be staying 3 nights at the end of June and I currently have reservations at both ( Albergo del Senato - Dbl Room because that’s all that is available) and Argentina - Superior Suite). Prices are relatively close. Albergo del Senato is about $75/night more than Argentina.

Thanks for your input,

Shelley

Albergo del Senato

We loved Albergo del Senato and would definitely stay there again. The rooftop for drinks is spectacular because of the view….the Pantheon is so close you feel like you could reach across and touch it. We did book a Penthouse Suite to get that view from our room. It’s a great location for seeing all the sites in Rome.

i was a little concerned that it would be noisy at night but it wasn’t. If you love coffee Tazza d’oro is right around the corner and far less busy early in the day compared to the rest of the day (line out the door).

Swanner, I’m not familiar with the Argentina Residenza so I can’t make a direct comparison, but the Alberto del Senato did not disappoint. From my 2015 trip report, “On my second visit to Rome in 2004 I’d seen the Pantheon for the first time, looked around me in the Piazza Rotunda, and said to myself, “I want to come back and stay right here.” The room, a deluxe double, was tight but it was all about the experience and the view. And, as Denisea wrote, it’s an excellent location for sightseeing.

Hello Denisea - thank you so much for your reply; my apologies for the delayed response. I’ve not been on the site til today due to some business travel, etc…

Your response was most helpful and it’s helped me decide to stay at Albergo del Senato.

Thank you, again, for your helpful response.
