all time favourite post?

Mine was the one about how much to tip the pilot? I did a search for it but couldn't find it!

Janda Jan 24th, 2003 02:10 PM

A funny one from today is where the person asked if there are laundromats in Spain. I almost gave her a smart answer then decided against it.

xxx Jan 24th, 2003 02:13 PM

Tipping the pilot was my favorite. I printed out to give my husband some chuckes. I remember there was a really top 10 funny list.

xxx Jan 24th, 2003 02:17 PM

oops, chuckles. Also another really funny one was "where to take my relative when he gets out of jail"

anon Jan 24th, 2003 02:19 PM

Elviras post- she gets too hungry. I've topped it.

nancy Jan 24th, 2003 02:26 PM

long anticipated trip to Italy- I topped it!

old guy Jan 24th, 2003 02:41 PM

most of the ones that make me laugh are deleted within a few hours. wish i could remember them.

anon Jan 24th, 2003 02:47 PM

oh yes "Nancy". My favourite post was about restaurant tipping. However I think it was on the US forum as a search revealed nothing here. It was about the wedding party who got persued out of the restaurant for not leaving a suitable tip.

Art Jan 24th, 2003 02:52 PM

Tipping the pilot and vickings and of course bring home the geese.
curious Jan 24th, 2003 02:59 PM

Art
can you find the tipping the pilot post? Don't remember the one about the geese!

Laura Jan 24th, 2003 03:01 PM

I liked the original Lucy Trip Report, but when I looked at it lately most of it was missing.

Book Chick Jan 24th, 2003 03:12 PM

I've never read a post written by Elvira that I did not find entertaining.

Some of my other favorites were "I Was Drunk The Day My Mother Got Out of Prison", "Are the Vikings Really Bad?", and the "gnu" thread that was removed within about 48 hours of its debut last year.

Mina's threads I also find very entertaining---I hope wherever her travels take her, she continues to post here, because she's informative and witty.

Ciao,
BC

Rae Jan 24th, 2003 03:14 PM

On the US forum, I enjoyed Patrick's "Nightmare at Tavern on the Green". It was a classic and so funny.

Lou Jan 24th, 2003 03:24 PM

I see posts alluding to the "Nightmare" but I cant find it. Anyone save it? I loved it too.

me Jan 24th, 2003 03:31 PM

Does anyone remember the post from Nacny (note the way she mispelled her name). I don't remember the topic of the post, but I remember laughing at it aloud! I remember there were several tongue-in-cheek responses.

It was not the Nancy-divorce post that has resurfaced.

Martha Jan 24th, 2003 03:34 PM

I liked the original Monkey thread, but I think it was on the US side. I also think it has been deleted.

Someone should be in charge of copying all interesting/funny posts that are in danger of getting deleted and posting them some place else. It is a shame to lose some of these.

ricky Jan 24th, 2003 03:36 PM

our mothers were right!

Rick Jan 24th, 2003 04:42 PM

Some of the Rick Steves posts were entertaining.

Mary Jan 24th, 2003 04:46 PM

Definitely tipping the pilot!

xxx Jan 24th, 2003 06:43 PM

Any posts that ask what to wear in Paris are my favorites just to see what responses they get.

John G Jan 24th, 2003 06:58 PM

My favourite post was the one where everyone dished on the worst-dressed person they had spotted while on holiday. Two of us, believe it or not, spyed Imelda Marcos at Saks in a wrinkled track suit.

Traveler Jan 24th, 2003 07:08 PM

My favorite post or posts are those that answered a travel question that I asked.

We have joke books at home with much funnier stories than "tipping the pilot" and other silly things.

Blake Jan 24th, 2003 07:12 PM

Well, I'd have to say the original Dr. Abate battle - but that was long ago obliterated. The "Beth Anderson Lessons In Narcissism" serial brought many a chuckle to me. God that was bad! And of course, the "Nancy Melodramas For A Rainy Afternoon" series had me rolling on the floor at times. Here is a link to the pilot for that series ---
http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...amp;tid=108056

curious Jan 25th, 2003 02:12 AM

can anyone find nightmare on tavern green? Yes I know its on the US forum but I have tried various keywords and can't find it. Must have been deleted.

anon Jan 25th, 2003 08:24 AM

another vote for the Italian saga.
sfowler Jan 25th, 2003 09:00 AM

Clara & Herb -- after that the limerick thread that seems to have been deleted:(

Marilyn Jan 25th, 2003 09:56 AM

All Time Favorite has to be:
"I Was Drunk The Day My Mother Got Out of Prison". I have shown it to many people to explain why I've become addicted to visiting fodors, and we have laughed at some of the posts til tears rolled down our cheeks.

Does anyone have a copy of "Drunk"? I tried to find it to no avail.

"Tipping the Pilot" is my #2 fave.
girl Jan 25th, 2003 10:35 AM

There was one about fat people with an argument made that one must pay for extra luggage so why not room.

I was laughing, having been on both sides.

roco Jan 25th, 2003 10:39 AM

Another vote for Lucy's original Trip Report! It was a well-written cliffhanger and I wish that I had printed it out. However, so many "fake" Lucy's added to it, the real Lucy will never post again (as in sequel).

Also, giggled over "what do you to entertain yourself on overseas flights", i.e., "kick the seat in front of me........"

Jil Jan 25th, 2003 12:10 PM

My favorite was the one on traveling light when Jim-I think- said that he saved all of his holie underwear to take to Europe, and pitched them in every country that he visited in Europe. Not only that, he did not have a favored nation-he treated all the same.

girls rule Jan 25th, 2003 12:19 PM

actually I rather enjoyed Beth Anderson's posts - she had a lot of verve, as well as nerve. imagine quitting a job to strike out on your own. I do miss Elvira the most though.

Byrd Jan 25th, 2003 12:32 PM

The Dr. Abate harangue has got to be one of the funniest ever. What a shame it's gone!

michele Jan 25th, 2003 03:48 PM

Another vote for Dr. Abate

oh Jan 25th, 2003 04:23 PM

Why were these two removed?

Author: oh ([email protected])
Date: 01/24/2003, 06:05 pm

Message: Quit living in the past. The best post is always one written today, starting with a good question, and given a thoughtful answer.

----------------------------------------

Author: xxx ([email protected])
Date: 01/24/2003, 06:06 pm

Message: I will not miss curious.
curious Jan 26th, 2003 12:48 AM

yes, strange- not exactly censor material.

curious Jan 26th, 2003 12:49 AM

Ah I see! Nancy has had posts removed.

susan_hurley Jan 26th, 2003 05:06 AM

i don't understand this post. you mean some of you actually read posts on here all the time? why?? a freind just told me of this website to ask a question concerning train times/schedules in scotland. after reviewing THIS post, i'm beginning to wonder if this isn't yet another forum some of you use as a chat room! shocking to say the least.

Frank Jan 26th, 2003 06:30 AM

Susan
Shocking??! Dear me! You have led a sheltered life. Also, ever heard of capital letters? Still, I'm not sure why I'm asking as you won't be wasting time reading this.

John Jan 26th, 2003 03:56 PM

I don't think the question about laundromats in Spain is funny. I looked for almost 3 weeks and only found one (which was closed).

mary Jan 26th, 2003 05:21 PM

WOW! It seems most of you on here have way too much time on your hands. You seem to be using this website as a form of companionship/chat vs. what it is meant for...information regarding travel. I feel sorry for you!
