double - a room for two.

I was thinking of Hotel Karntnerhof or Hotel Austria, based on location, price and reviews on Venere.

Pension Suzanne looks to be about the same price range but is closer to the Opera house? Do they accept credit cards or take online booking?

Looks like Pension Suzanne is closer to the major attractions (other than St. Stephan's) than the other hotels?

But one consideration is that Morinplatz is where the airport bus leaves and arrives and that is closer to the Hotels. Not sure it's walking distance, especially with luggage and uncertain weather (last week of January)

We did stay at Pension Suzanne in September. It was very convenient to the metro - one block from the opera house.

You can book online. I booked several months ahead. If you email them ask if you may use your credit card as they stated they preferred cash.

The owners are very nice people and very helpful. They do have a computer available in the office.

The breakfast and breakfast room were very nice.

St Stephans was just a short walk from the Pension. We ate at Figuelmuellers (the orignal restuarant) and Restaurant Griechenbeist. Both are within walking distance.

We came to Vienna by train and left by train - we did take a taxi to and from the stations. I would not want to go on the metros with a lot of luggage.

We very much enjoyed the Best Western Tigra. It has a convenient inside the ring location, excellent rooms (but not its annex) and one of the best breakfast buffets we have ever enjoyed in our travels. It is the same building where Leopold and a boy Mozart lived when he had his Vienna debut - the concerthall is around the corner. Mozart lived there once again as an adult.

Gonna try the Pension Pertschy, near Stephansplatz.

They have a "Sweet Vienna" package which includes a Vienna Card and a voucher for cake at Demels for not much more than their regular room rate.

Kind of a drag though that I had to call them with my credit card number. They wanted me to email it.

The www.wien.info site doesn't seem to use secure transactions for booking hotels. I'd be leery about putting in my credit card info there.

go for one that overlooks the graben ( the pedestrian area)- maybe they all do but we had this lovely geranium box window and i took photos of the beautiful graben at dawn

big private bathroom - floor got wet though so dont put anything down !
the coffee was divine and the hosts gracious!

We stayed at the Hotel Rathaus Wein and Design and it was our favorite hotel in Austria!! The rooms are spacious, well-designed, and looked pretty new. And it sounds crazy, but we fell in love with the huge, "rain shower" type showers. The breakfast buffet is good, too--lots of interesting things to choose from.

Overall, a very comfortable boutique hotel to stay at!

Pension Pertschy is nice, built in an old palace dating back to the 14th century. Price is pretty reasonable, especially with the Sweet Vienna package which includes the Vienna Card (mostly useful for transport and 1 Euro discount to most museums).

Quiet even though it's very near the center of things, between the Stephansplatz and Hofberg.

It has most modern amenities, including free Wifi in the rooms.

Breakfast isn't as varied as the Hotel Achat Plaza in Salzburg, which is a more modern hotel belonging to a chain. But it's good like in most Northern European countries.

A place like Hotel Austria or Hotel Kartnerhof are probably nicer with more current furnishings and amenities.

But Pertschy seems to be a better location if one plans to head towards the Opera and Hofberg areas more frequently.

We stayed at the Pension Suzanne in May of 2008. The price was right, and the location was perfect. Our room was small but fine for us. It's a block from the Opera House and the tram...few blocks from the Stephensdom. Breakfast and computer use is included. They also have parking passes available. The staff is very helpful suggesting things to do and securing tickets to different venues. We would definitely stay there again.
