Accommodations In Vienna
Hi Everyone!
Can you guys recommend some accommodations for me in Vienna? I have been looking at Travel Advisor and they have a wide range of places so it gets overwhelming for me! Also, a quick question. What's the difference between a Pension and a Hotel? Do they have private bathrooms in the rooms of pensions? Will appreciate all suggestions and recommendations! Thanks! |
Usually a pension is smaller and simpler than a hotel. Variances abound, though.
A very nice boutique hotel in Vienna is the Hotel Kaiserin Elizabeth. It's a four-star, and moderately expensive. Very nice breakfast buffet included.. Located centrally, right by the Stephansdom. I can personally recommend it highly. If you search this forum for Vienna pensions and hotels, you will find other suggestions. Pension Pertsky, Pension Suzanne, and Hotel Konig von Ungaren are often mentioned, for example. |
Hi, I can recommend the Hotel Pension City, a small hotel, quite economical in a suburb location right near Stephansplatz. I wrote a little review of it in my trip report, which actually I'm still working on, and will post the Vienna part of shortly. Here's the thread with the hotel review: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35152085

Pension Nossek on the Graben (pedestrian area). You can walk to most sights from here and the subway and trams are close. 110 - 115 Euro for a double. They do have private bathrooms in the rooms.

We will be staying at the Pension Suzanne in September. It seemed to have a good location and a good price.
|
We also liked the Kaiserin Elizabeth. It is in a great location and the staff was very nice.
|
Has anyone stayed at Pension A und A or Hotel Rathaus?
Thanks! |
This was another place I was looking at The Levante Parliament. Has anyone stayed here?
|
Have you thought of renting an apartment for the period of time? It, of course, depends on how long you plan to stay, but many apartments are available for just a few nights. There are many benefits to doing this aside from the obvious cost savings. Here's one to consider http://www.netland.at/wien/jilemicky/.
I have stayed here before and the owner is wonderful...true Austrian warmth and class. So much so, that I will be staying there again this Christmas. Regards |
Thanks Lauchie! I haven't even thought of that! Thanks for the suggestion and link! Will look into that tonight! =)

we also stayed at Pension Suzanne. Great breakfast. Small room but clean and decorated elegantly. Great location near Opera House. We walked everywhere.
|
I have stayed at two small hotels in Vienna, Hotelpension Arenberg (which is a Best Western property but still has the posh Vienna feel) with just 22 rooms and Hotel Drei Kronen. Both had private baths and the room at Drei Kronen was a little smaller. Drei Kronen had an excellent buffet breakfast and is near the university so some professors stay there. It is just outside the ring. Arenberg is inside the ring and has a nice breakfast with homemade muslei. Both are very convenient to the U-Bahn and the sights.

We stayed at the Pension Suzanne in May. Great price, substantial breakfast; and BEST location! Right in the heart of things....The staff was very helpful in giving suggestions, making reservations, providing use of the computer. We'd definitely stay there again.

I am booked at Aviano, My Secret Home, for 3 nights in December. Wonderful reviews on multiple travel boards, great rates and they have been an absolute pleasure to deal with.
|
The Levante Parliament is a very nice design hotel-usually many vip's are staying there!
|
I like the look of the jilemickey apartment - but I'm a bit afraid of the "self tormenting towels"

lawchick, you got in before me!

I loved Hotel Austria. Great location, good price, pleasant staff, terrific breakfast. I'd go back there again in a flash.

Hi- I was looking on the Kaiserin Elizabeth Hotel website, what is the difference between a single room and a double room? Can a single fit 2 people comfortably or would i have to get a double? Thanks.
|
We had the 'family' room at the Kaiserin Elisabeth, so I don't know the difference between a single and a double.
I'd e-mail the hotel and ask them. They are quite good at responding to inquiries. (Do not try to sneak a person into this hotel. It is quite small and personal.) |
Single means just that - a room for one person only double - a room for two. |
I was thinking of Hotel Karntnerhof or Hotel Austria, based on location, price and reviews on Venere.
Pension Suzanne looks to be about the same price range but is closer to the Opera house? Do they accept credit cards or take online booking? Looks like Pension Suzanne is closer to the major attractions (other than St. Stephan's) than the other hotels? But one consideration is that Morinplatz is where the airport bus leaves and arrives and that is closer to the Hotels. Not sure it's walking distance, especially with luggage and uncertain weather (last week of January) |
We did stay at Pension Suzanne in September. It was very convenient to the metro - one block from the opera house.
You can book online. I booked several months ahead. If you email them ask if you may use your credit card as they stated they preferred cash. The owners are very nice people and very helpful. They do have a computer available in the office. The breakfast and breakfast room were very nice. You can check out the reviews at tripadvisor. St Stephans was just a short walk from the Pension. We ate at Figuelmuellers (the orignal restuarant) and Restaurant Griechenbeist. Both are within walking distance. We came to Vienna by train and left by train - we did take a taxi to and from the stations. I would not want to go on the metros with a lot of luggage. |
We very much enjoyed the Best Western Tigra. It has a convenient inside the ring location, excellent rooms (but not its annex) and one of the best breakfast buffets we have ever enjoyed in our travels. It is the same building where Leopold and a boy Mozart lived when he had his Vienna debut - the concerthall is around the corner. Mozart lived there once again as an adult.

Gonna try the Pension Pertschy, near Stephansplatz.
They have a "Sweet Vienna" package which includes a Vienna Card and a voucher for cake at Demels for not much more than their regular room rate. Kind of a drag though that I had to call them with my credit card number. They wanted me to email it. The www.wien.info site doesn't seem to use secure transactions for booking hotels. I'd be leery about putting in my credit card info there. |
pension nossek
was great right on the graben look up high to see the sign tho it's opposite the photo shop great breakfast and lovely rooms go for one that overlooks the graben ( the pedestrian area)- maybe they all do but we had this lovely geranium box window and i took photos of the beautiful graben at dawn big private bathroom - floor got wet though so dont put anything down ! the coffee was divine and the hosts gracious! |
We stayed at the Hotel Rathaus Wein and Design and it was our favorite hotel in Austria!! The rooms are spacious, well-designed, and looked pretty new. And it sounds crazy, but we fell in love with the huge, "rain shower" type showers. The breakfast buffet is good, too--lots of interesting things to choose from.
Overall, a very comfortable boutique hotel to stay at! |
love, Love, LOVE the Ring Hotel.
"Alles Gut!" |
This is for user "lauchie":
You mentioned staying at Apartment Jilemicky again in December - any update to your earlier comments? We are considering staying there in May. Thanks. |
Pension Pertschy is nice, built in an old palace dating back to the 14th century. Price is pretty reasonable, especially with the Sweet Vienna package which includes the Vienna Card (mostly useful for transport and 1 Euro discount to most museums).
Quiet even though it's very near the center of things, between the Stephansplatz and Hofberg. It has most modern amenities, including free Wifi in the rooms. Breakfast isn't as varied as the Hotel Achat Plaza in Salzburg, which is a more modern hotel belonging to a chain. But it's good like in most Northern European countries. A place like Hotel Austria or Hotel Kartnerhof are probably nicer with more current furnishings and amenities. But Pertschy seems to be a better location if one plans to head towards the Opera and Hofberg areas more frequently. |
We stayed at the Pension Suzanne in May of 2008. The price was right, and the location was perfect. Our room was small but fine for us. It's a block from the Opera House and the tram...few blocks from the Stephensdom. Breakfast and computer use is included. They also have parking passes available. The staff is very helpful suggesting things to do and securing tickets to different venues. We would definitely stay there again.
