I can't believe the slaps Ralstonian is getting because she made a MISTAKE & the sour grapes because she could afford such a trip. All she wanted to do was vent about it. She learned her lesson so give her a break. SHEESH!

I agree carrybean but most fodorites are supportive of eachother.
Ralstonlan, I'm sorry you can't go. I know that feeling. |
"but most fodorites are supportive of eachother."
And God help those who have an independent opinion on anything! |
"I shall not comment on a person for whom business affairs are more important than such a thoughtful and lovely birthday surprise."
Ira, an unfair slam on her husband. There are plenty of set dates during a year that would be impossible for me to be away from what pays my bills and affords me vacation time...my job. I'm sure he doesn't feel very happy about it, but being an adult means having obligations; work being up near the top of the list. Ralstonian, sorry it didn't go as planned, but as time goes on at least the story will be an interesting one to tell at dinner parties. Just remember, "You'll always have Paris...almost." ((H)) |
rkkwan, I never suggested she lie but to state the facts to which I could only elude and do not know the full extent of in a manner that would create empathy and understanding. Sometimes if you ask for something, even politely, it will not be granted, but if you help the person to understand the situation and put it in full context which they themseleves can relate to and see the situation from your point of view, you will gain their empathy, sympathy, understanding, and possibly negotiate a favorable outcome.
AA, I apologize; I looked in the phonebook and indeed there is a local number for our bank. |
Ronda - Fair enough. And if I run AA and receive that letter you suggested, I'd write back and tell the OP that her husband makes enough money for both of them to buy a new ticket when they can actually go.
|
BTW, let me state that my sister is a doctor, my boss is a doctor, I work with many other doctors. Not all of them can be considered "rich", but none of them (or their spouses) will try this crap, excuse my language. And I don't think the OP or her husband will either.

<<...but who can anticipate everything that might go wrong?>>
Sorry Ronda, but getting the time off from work is the FIRST thing I do before I even start planning a trip. And certainly before buying a plane ticket, making upgrades, hotel and restaurant reservations, etc. |
