Hi

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Cotinental in June last year. It is close to the train station and we also got a pretty big room with two windows facing Canal Grande :-) I have posted a "review" of the hotel in my trip report which has been posted on my personal homepage www.gardkarlsen.com :-D I have also posted pictures from my trip to Venice...I hope that it can be of some use to you. Have a great trip.

Check out the website EuroCheapo, www.eurocheapo.com for budget accommadations. I've read decent reviews on a place in Cannaregio district (close to train station), the Hotel Minerva & Nettuno. Their direct site is http://www.minervaenettuno.it
Do be aware it's a place heavy on the "old world charm". EuroCheapo editors describe it as "dishing up classic cheapo charm" with an interesting decor.

Gard - just had to post and say thanks for the link to your site! I really enjoyed the reviews and photos (I'll be making my first trip to Italy - Rome and Venice - this fall).

Also wanted to second the recommendation for La Calcina. I just booked them for my two nights in Venice in August. They are highly recommended, and the price I was quoted for a double was 109 euro mid season and 130 euro high season (I am staying there for one night in each season). Hope this helps!! :)

Casa Rezzonico in Duorsdoro (on Lesli's very helpful list) may be a little higher as well; we are booked for a large double room with private bath in May for $140/night. I'm not sure if they have more options for a double.

You might like the Hotel Guerrato. It's very close to the Rialto Market and in a good location. The rate is 113E. I stayed here in 2001 and really enjoyed it. The staff are wonderful. http://www.eurocheapo.com/venice/lis...n/guerrato.asp.

We booked a quad room for 270 euro at the Hotel Antico Doge. It looks real nice. About a 10 min. walk to San Marco Square. Never been there..heading there April 28th.

I suggest Locanda Ss. Giovanni e Paolo. Excellent location, helpful staff and a very good balance between quality and price. http://locandassgiovannipaolo.it
