A Good Value Hotel In Venice?
Hello Again:
We are going to travel by train from Rome to Venice this June and I was wondering if someone could recommend a good value hotel in Venice? We were thinking 100 euro range?? Thanks to anyone for their help or advice? We'll need something close to the train station, I guess. Ilonka |
Check out Ca'Della Corte. It is a lovely B&B within walking distance to the Train Station, I stayed there two summers ago. http://www.cadellacorte.com/

try Hotel Galleria...it was $104E/night for a twin, private bath in Oct 2002. Great location, nice rooms.

Hi llonka,
Also look into http://www.hotelbernardi.com/en/hotel.html http://alcampaniel.tripod.com/venezia/ |
Hotel Al Gambero http://www.locandaalgambero.com/inglese/hotel.htm
Definitely look into this hotel. We loved it! |
Hello Everyone:
Thank you for the tips on the hotels to check out in Venice. We look forward to our trip. Last trip to Europe was 15 years ago with the kids but, a very guided & hand held tour. Thanks again Ilonka |
Pegg - Al Gambero looks lovely, but rates for June are 190E for a double - nearly twice the requested budget....
Which is difficult, but not impossible to accomplish in Venice. Ilonka - If you haven't tried already, type your dates into venere.com to get some idea of what might be available in your price range for your dates. There are also comments from prior guests on this site. Buona fortuna! |
Don't know if this will suit you, but I stayed in religious accomodations all over Italy. In Venice we stayed at the Instituto Artigianeli which is in Dorsoduro near the Zattere stop. Very near the Accademia. It cost us about 90 EURO for a twin with private bathroom. If you want additional info just e-mail me.

I did a Google search for convent accomodations in Venice and came up with the following, which lists 3 locations, including Jim's:

Lesli-Thanks for pointing that out!! I was there in Jan (I thought that was high season) and we paid about 120 Euro so I thought the rate couldn't be higher than that. Wow.. didn't realize what a bargain we got! Sorry about that llonka!

check out Locanda Barbarigo as well, although in June it might be too high a rate. I was quoted 110E for their largest room, but in August.

I have several friends heading to Italy in the fall on a budget, and I recently sent them e-mails containing the following for hotels in Venice:
"I'm not wild about being right on top of the center of things, Piazza San Marco. (You can walk just about anywhere in about 20 minutes, so location isn't that important to me.) But here are a few places in this area that are nice and not too pricey: http://www.cadelduca.com/ http://www.casasulmolo.com/ Same owners as Leon Bianco (below.) Other areas: http://www.leonbianco.it/ Where I stayed last time. Canal views. Would go back. http://www.gaffaro.com/ Where I'm staying this time. No canal views, but cheaper, and nice garden terrace. http://www.locandalevele.com/ Where I almost stayed this time. Huge rooms with canal views, elegant decor and great rates, but no public areas. http://www.locandassgiovannipaolo.it/ Tried for this trip, but they were booked. http://alcampaniel.tripod.com/ The cheapest nice place I've found in Venice. Good feedback. http://www.locandamarinella.it/ Strongly considered for this trip, but Gaffaro was cheaper. Well off the tourist trail. http://www.anticofiore.com/index.htm http://www.locandanovo.it/ http://www.caamadi.com/ http://www.locandaorseolo.com/ http://www.casarezzonico.it/index.html In Dorsodoro (a charming area near the Accademia): http://www.locandasantrovaso.com/ Have tried to book here twice, but it's been full. http://www.lacalcina.com/ See above. http://www.hotelgalleria.it/ http://www.italian-shop.com/LSB/default.html " |
I should have mentioned La Calcina as well. This is where we are staying in August. It has been recommended on this site quite a bit, as well as being recommended by Karen Brown's B&B book.

Lesli, what a great post! I'm also looking for an inexpensive Venice hotel for October, and this list adds some extra hotels to check out. Thanks very much. Cheers, Linda
|
Thanks, Linda! You're most welcome; I figure that once I've done the research, I might as well share it....
Let us know where you end up! |
Hi Lesli. What rate did you snag for Gaffaro, and in what month? P.S. your list is fabulous.
|
I'll be at the Gaffaro in mid-May. Traveling solo, I have an attic/loft room with a what they call a queen (and I'm interpreting to mean double) "french" bed. This, IMO is *far* preferable to a miniscule single. I am paying 85E/night, including tax and breakfast.
They've been very nice by e-mail, and I'm looking forward to my stay. Their website shows "instant" rates and availability, which is nice - you can find out on the spot what they have for what price on your dates. |
Thanks, Lesli!
|
You're welcome, Sue! BTW, my room was booked as a "single" as far as the Gaffaro's rate schedule goes.
When I received their confirmation, I asked about bed size, and their reply descibed the bed and room as above. |
I love Pensione La Calcina, it's a fabulous value, but maybe a bit high on your budget, depends the time of year and the type of room you want. www.lacalcina.com
