Sounds like your trip is in June? If so at the moment no refunds from Italo.

Unless you have one of the more expensive ticket classes. Then the normal rules apply.

Thanks Nick. That is the last thing to take care of. My trip was starting mid April through end of May. Train was Bologna to Florence.

Dayle, so sorry you have had to cancel, but I understand your decision. I don't think I would go to northern Italy right now! Hope you can do something fun instead!

Best of luck and I hope you are able to go for at least 6 weeks. With the extra year of saving, why not make it two months?

Hi flygirl,

I was surprised to see this topped! Thanks for the thought.

Unfortunately my opportunity to go for even six weeks was one I wont have again. I have two pugs that need care while Im gone and dog sitting for that long really adds up! I had a chance to have a friend stay with them for a month and my regular pet sitter would stay for the last two weeks. In the meantime, Im supposed to be selling my house and moving to a new town. That means no charge friend wont be available and dog sitter got married and moved away. Such a nice girl and she planned her wedding and major life events around the commitment she made to me and the puggies. Even though my trip was cancelled, I still paid her because it was the right thing to do!

Anyway, then we get to the future questions of....how much will airfare be in the new world? When will there be a vaccine? What will people on Medicare do for travel insurance? Will there still be travel insurance that covers medical at all?? Have to see how things shake out.

Its been 7 long years already since my last trip! Way too long! I have been so envious of the people who got in trips in the last few months and even weeks before all this happened.

However, I am fortunate to be staying healthy, dont have a job or mortgage to worry about. So very thankful for these things!

I'm so sorry you weren't and maybe won't be able to take your planned trip. I read back through some of the earlier posts in this thread - is an RV trip still a possibility? We own an RV and after cancelling everything from April 1st to June 30th, we still hope to get out on the road this summer.

One more thing in your last post caught my eye (something I hadn't thought of before) -

What will people on Medicare do for travel insurance? Will there still be travel insurance that covers medical at all??
. We're on Medicare and do have some overseas coverage through our supplemental plan, but always assumed we'd purchase additional coverage for future trips. It will be interesting to see how this, along with everything else, shakes out.

Good luck!
