Contact lens solution is specifically exempted from the TSA regs on www.tsa.gov It must be "presesnted" to the TSA agent in YET another baggie as a "medical" item. They will then do "something" (No one is really sure what?)

As to the regs not requiring labled bottles. SO?? YOUR TSA agent can (and may) make up thier OWN rules. If like me you have had ENOUGH ask for a supervisor. (They hate that, you should hear the "You will miss your plane" speech) I no longer allow them to "make up the rules" but I know most folks would rather not deal with them. (which is what they are counting on. I decided to fight back after I saw an agent BERATE an Senior Citizen YELLING at her "YOU COULD WALK IF YOU WANTED TO" Yeah, she was just in a wheelchair to screw up his life!)

Folks - this is NOT just TSA - same rules apply in Europe.

All this griping about TSA - in Feb I saw folks being challenged about the size of their containers in Cork, LHR and Frankfurt. So everyone who wants to just say "TSA are idiots" are sort of on poor footing. There are enough legitimate complaints re TSA w/o blaming them for something that is pretty much universal (BTW - the screeners in Frankfurt were by far the most strict/ornery I observed . . . .)

I keep the bottles from the hotels - all are less than 3 oz and are labeled but I empty out their shampoo and put in mine. I also have used it for laundry soap - just right for a load if it is the concentrate. Solves the problem - do the same with the lotion and it throw it when I am done. They do not care how much as long as it fits in the cute little baggie - at least that has been my experience

I have seen the following

1. TSA Agent YELLING at Senior Citizen "YOU COULD WALK IF YOU WANTED TO" over and over again and then basically abusing said passenger during the "PAT DOWN" (It's a pat down not a chance to perform physical abuse!)

2. TSA agent threatening passenger with "strip search" for having a corkscrew (Corkscrews are allowed and passenger (ME) had said NOTHING to TSA agent)

3. TSA agent SCREAMING at passenger to "TAKE OUT YOUR BAGGIE" even though the man kept polietly saying "I have no liquids"

Based on the above and MORE, I don't hold them in very high esteem.

Folks - thanks for all the responses. It seems there are a lot of 2 oz and smaller bottles, not so many 3 oz. Regardless, I did a web search and found the following site, I think I'll buy some bottles from them:

I wouldn't buy TOO many; you might have trouble getting as many as three of the suckers in a quart (small) ziplock.

To be fair to the TSA (which is more than they've ever been to me), I had a security goon in Hobart, Australia carefully bend the two-inch-long nail file that was part of my nail clippers until it broke off, berating me at length in a rather vindictive fashion for having attempted to bring such a criminal item on a plane. The problem of uneducated minimum-wage mouth-breathers directing the security operations of entire portions of society is universal.

For the US. I now COMPLAIN at the time. I also write the airport, TSA and my elected officals. I started this after the abuse of the Senior Citizen. (I raised a LOUD STINK then. I asked other TSA agents if they thought this was "acceptable" and they just shrugged. I will say that I never again saw that JERK at the BNA screening point. I made SURE to look for him)

fnarf999: Nail files are prohibited in Australian airports, and have been for a long time. I think it is worth keeping in mind that the TSA does not set the rules for the entire world - what is allowed in the USA isn't necessarily allowed elsewhere. Your best bet for anything is to check with the airline that you're travelling on, and make sure that you're complying will all the relevant rules before complaining about security staff.

Bausch & Lomb does now have a 2 ounce bottle for the MultiUse Renu solution. It is not easy to find, though.

I've been FedExing my contact lense solutions to my destinations, now, since last September. I also call the destination before I leave to make sure items have been received. While very costly, it has worked quite well for me.

WHY is anyone worried about contact lens solution???? Or mailing it ahead?

Over the counter and prescription meds and solutions larger than 3 oz <u><b>including saline and contact lens solution</b></u> are specifically allowed under TSA rules. They can be in your carry on and don't have to fit in the quart-sized baggie. They do have to be screened seperately like the baggie - but they can be in larger containers . . . . . .

janisj- you are correct about the rules. However, on occasion, I have had these items plucked from me and confiscated by TSA in the following places within the past 7 months: LaGuardia, Phoenix, Providenciales, Rome (Fiumincino), and Tortola. There is no guarantee that the person at security will care. Some of these people enjoy the power they wield.

The experience in Tortola just this past March was particularly amusing, as I entered into a lengthy negotiation with the security person there: ultimately, she had me stand over a watebasket and squeeze out 3/4 of a larger bottle while others waited patiently.

I cannot see properly without my contact lenses. I depend on them and the products I must use with them. These products are not available in some parts of the USA and are definitely not available overseas. I do not mind paying to FedEx these items to my destination, as it provides me with peace of mind.
