3 oz. travel bottles?
 

Hi - for an upcoming 2 week trip to Italy, I want to get my hands on a bunch of 3 oz. bottles to comply with US TSA regulations. Anyone know of a good supplier of these? I see Nalgene (love their products) and Eagle Creek offer travel bottles, but they are in different sizes, including the now obsolete (to me) 4 oz. size.

Go to the drugstore, find the sample-size rack (probably several dozen different kinds of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc.), buy the cheapest stuff you can find, then dump it out and refill with your products when you get home (or just use them).

I found some at Target, but they were included in a cosmetics bag.

As fnarf999 says - I'd first start looking for travel/sample sizes at any local drugstore/Target/Walmart. MANY products come in small sizes. Then for things you can't find sample/travel sizes, look in the same stores and luggage/travel stores for empty travel bottles. I get most of my empty bottles at Nordstrom Rack - a really good selection most of the time. But Long's, Target, Walmart also have them - a LOT cheaper than Eagle Creek

Follow fnarf999 advice. Last week I filled some empty (unlabeled) little plastic bottles( less that 3 oz.) with my shampoo, conditioner and face freshener. They took them away because the platic bottles "were not labeled".

Try your local AAA or outdoor type store. Eagle Creek has a set of what you're looking for and I've seen them in stores and online at their website under accessories. www.eaglecreek.com

I filled some empty unlabeled clear bottles (bought at Boots in London) with <i>water</i> and when I went through security, they tested each one.

Found a bag of them at a dollar store.

I've found everything I need at an outdoor store - in the backpacking section.

Go to a natural rememdies/cosmetics type of a store... where they sell shampoo and lotions in bulk. I found 3 oz. ones there.

Try Walmart. Yesterday I purchased several 3 oz empty travel-size bottles in their cosmetics/sundries department.

If you have sephora stores in the U.S you will find lots there. Its a French chain but with international outlets. I got loads when in Paris at their flagship store on champs elysee.

Cruiseluv brings up something I've been meaning to ask. My last flight, I had put shampoo, etc in 3oz. Nalgene bottles and had them in the baggie. The security guy said something about them not being labeled but he'd let it go this time. Are any of these bottles labeled with the number of ounces? I'd thought of just taping on a piece of paper that said '3 oz.'. Anybody know for sure?

I recently travelled with 100ml bottles in a clear plastic zipped bag. I showed them to security, and no problems. Yhey werent labelled, so in europe its O.K I think.

I shamelessly get &quot;samples&quot; of things I already use at home. Department stores are good for lines like Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Philosophy. Kiehl's is great for getting samples too. They are very giving with their samples, and the sizes are good. Can last for days.

I am assuming I can take things like hand cream if it is 3oz or less?...I hate to have to buy bottles.

Our Bed Bath and Beyond now has a very good selection of small sample size items (a whole section) as well as a clear plastic bag filled with lots of small bottles and jars for you to fill with your favorite items (about $10).

If you travel with more than just a carryon, you can put most items in your suitcase (double baggied) and just check things. I only carry my prescriptions medicines in my carryon.

Depends on the TSA agent, but they can take it away from you if it does not state on the bottle that it holds the allowable amount. Actually, they can take it away from you if they don't like the way you look but that another story.

When you mention bottles have to be labeled, does that mean factory labels with the contents? Or just what you yourself write on a tack-on label?

Having returned yesterday from Korea/China with the contents of my suitcase soaked with shampoo, I give a resounding thumbs down to the Bed Bath and Beyond plastic bottles with the blue caps! The one I used for shampoo leaked not once but twice during my trip...no harm done but I would not use that particular bottle again!
