3 days to kill in Scotland

Planning a trip to Scotland in August. First week is booked and will be spent in Edinburgh and area. I am flying out of Glasgow. I would like some recommendations for the 3 days between these two venues. Would you drive up to Loch Ness or would you go to Skye or? Looking for advice. Thanks, Craig

Hi,
Who or what are you intending to kill?

Scarlett Apr 9th, 2003 03:38 PM

ira, that's easy! He's going hunting for haggis!

3 days to kill? go not with time to kill, but time to live! (thanks to Kahlil Gibran, sorta)

Skye, for sure!

I'm sorry zurichhasbeen - but your title is REALLY silly. That's why you are getting these types of answers.

post a mea culpa -- and then give us some idea of what sorts of things you like. than MAYBE you'll get some help.

Skye beats Loch Ness for sure.

There's some pretty sensitive people on this forum, zurichhasbean. I saw your title and had to look to see if anyone actually gave some advice or if you just got a scolding for asking a question the "wrong" way.

Inverness and Loch Ness generally take a beating on this forum as well, but I really enjoy the trip along the loch. Skye and the region just north of Skye (Plockton, Applecross) are gorgeous. And the trip from Skye back down the coast toward Glasgow is also pretty spectacular. From Skye to Mallaig to Ft William, down to Oban to Crianlarich, Lochearnhead, Trossachs . . . I could KILL lots of time in that area.

Have fun!

Nothing wrong with the title- works for me:)

Skye for sure of those two choices. But why not try for somewhere wonderful more off the beaten track?

(Actually my motives may be more to do with how bored I am getting writing about Skye:))
Snoopy, who "scolded"?

Snoopy Apr 11th, 2003 08:35 AM

Scarlett, a reply and a question or 2:

1. I said I had to look to see if he got advice or a scolding. I didn't say anyone scolded him. I said there are some thin skinned people on this forum and when I saw the title of his post, I figured someone would comment on it without really responding.

2. What's the purpose of your question, Scarlett? Are you trying to put me on a spot? And why would anyone hunt haggis? What has he done? It's Bill Posters that should be hunted and prosecuted!! Although there's plenty of grafitti that claims that Bill Posters is innocent.

Snoopy Apr 11th, 2003 08:37 AM

sheila??? What the heck? Don't stop writing about Skye, even if you are bored with it. You have an audience to please. The next best thing . . . ok, the second next best thing to either being there or recalling the memories is reading about it.
Scarlett Apr 11th, 2003 10:14 AM

Snoopy,
1-in case you thought that my (obviously poor) joke was intended as a scold, I was asking.
2-nope, don't want to put you on the spot. Why would I?
3-Since there were numerous threads about Haggis (humerous also), I thought I was being funny.
Sorry, Scarlett. My sense of humor is far too dry for email or chatlines or apparently fodors forums. As you said, I meant no harm.

Snoopy Apr 14th, 2003 06:44 AM

. . . and, yes, your haggis comment was humorous. I included the Bill Posters comment because long ago in Edinburgh someone had written that comment on practically every "Bill Posters Will Be Prosecuted" sign in the city.
