Anyone going on the Xpedition/Galapagos
We are, in Feb 2004. Lots of stuff on the internet, easy to get bogged down in info overload. Have found a couple of good sites thought.
|
Thrpy, my husband and I will be going in April. Please share the internet sites that you feel are the best. I am most interested, at this point, to read feedback on Xpedition, itself. I know that visiting the Galapagos will be fabulous, I just want to be sure that the Xpedition will be just as wonderful!

I see where you cruised last Feb. Did you enjoy it? Celebrity now has a ship starting this summer to the Galapagos, too. I can't wait to see the Galapagos Islands, too! :-) |
Just booked in January. Sounds frantastic

Cruiser.....the Xpedition is a Celebrity ship. She is a yacht (2,329 gross tons) and will hold 98 guests. All rooms have an ocean view.
|
We're going this December!!!!! We booked the minimum cabin, but we are on the ship! It includes time in Quito , also.

Would love to hear a travel report from those returning from Celebrity's first official week of cruising the Galapagos or those who have been on the Xpedition previously! |
We booked the 10 day in January. Anxious to hear the reports. Sounds great.

I really would like to read it, but when I cut and paste, it does not come up.

I cannot wait! How lovely. Thanks for the post.

I have sailing Oct 31. Galapagos has been on my wish list since I first heard of Darwin. I get migraine triggered by weather, so am a bit anxious about altitude. Have been researching Diamox etc. But would really like to hear about others' experiences re Quito and altitude and Imitrex. If anyone can shed light on how these factors react together, would be very grateful.

There is a very good passenger review of this cruise on the Celebrity message board at cruisecritic.com

everittp. Get to Quito a day ahead of the tour to rest and to acclimate. It was the advice we got from the tour operator when we went to Peru, and we were glad we followed it. Between the Andean herbal tea, I forgot the name, which hotels have ready in the lobby, and one extra day in Cuzco, we were just fine.

Yes, Cruise Critic has a wonderful review, questions, answers and more questions. We are going on the 10 day starting Dec 3 in Quito. First, however, we are flying to Lima and going to Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca. That will take about 10 days then we fly in to Quito from Lima on the 3rd. Can't wait.

loveopera Hi!
What travel agency did you use in Peru? philbill |
We booked through Wilderness Travel. They run good tours. We also went to Bali and east of Bali through them. I highly recommend them. As it was shortly after the 9/11, everyone else cancelled, so we ended up as a private tour. It was great.

Wilderness Travel's web site is www.wildernesstravel.com. They use excellent hotels and guides. If you are going to Machu Picchu, make sure you stay in the Machu Picchu Sanctury Lodge. It's the only one at the Sanctuary, and being right there makes a HUGE difference. Any tour staying below in Aguas Calientes you can assume it's less than first class.
