TiffanyLynn,

People have mentioned a lot of great places. It depends on your preference. If you like to snorkel, the Virgin Islands and the Caymans are great.

If you like hiking or scenic hills in the backdrop, again the Virgin Islands are great.

Not so crowded is a relative term. Do you want some place where you aren't going to see other people period? I haven't been for like 20 years, but you may want to consider chartering a plane to Chub Cay in the Bahamas.

If you want some people just not a lot, St. John & Cayman are both good picks---although I haven't been to Cayman in years either.

For my wedding and honeymoon we rented a private villa in the Coral Bay area of St. John. It was secluded and romantic.

We went last summer for a friend's wedding and stayed at the Westin. Although it was a good package deal, it was way too crowded for my tastes. There was too much organized fun going on as well.

1) Petit St. Vincent
2) Peter Island or Biras Creek in BVI
3) (nearly tied with 2) Cap Juluca in Anguilla

If any of you are not familiar with Scubamom aka Lynn McKamey, I strongly suggest you take a look at her web site at http://www.scubamom.com/caribbean/. She is the most knowledgeable person I'm aware of in the area of small romatic resorts in the Caribbean. While she has pretty much confined herself to BVI, SVG, T&C, St. Lucia and USVI, that covers a huge chunk of the world of intimate Caribbean luxury resorts.

I think I could be happy simply going to any place she recommends.

St. John, USVI - Caneel Bay

I've been to many Caribbean Islands and my wife and I decided on this one for our honeymoon in August of last year. While we were there during the off-season we practically had all of Caneel's perfect white sand beaches to ourselves. Cruz Bay is a short taxi ride from the resort if you want to get off property and enjoy some fine restaurants or some cool palces to have a drink and apps.

We loved it so much that we requsted to stay a few more nights and the Caneel (along with our travel agent) made the extension easy.

ENJOY!!!!

Depends if you want people and planned activities, or privacy/get-away and romance.
I vote for privacy and romance = best quiet beach is Little Dix Bay's. Friendly inhabitants (couple thousand spread out), day trips to Baths, Tortola (surfing), Jost Van Dyke, Caneel Bay (STJ). Gin-clean turquise waters. Rent a jeep and spend the day at Savannah Bay (you'll likely only see a couple people there, all day! and it has such white sand in the water you'd swear it is a pool ) and Maho bay

Barbuda has the most magnificent beach! No charters will have to find a local resident to pick you up at airport.

You need to look into Anguilla. Take it from me, you will not find whiter sand beaches anywhere. We just returned from St. Maarten, and we spent some time in Anguilla (just a short ferry trip away). We thought St. Maarten had beautiful beaches and clear, turquoise water, but Anguilla comes in first (barely)! The water looks like you are in a swimming pool, and the sand is so white it hurts your eyes! 12 days is a lenthy stay; why not enjoy some time in St. Maarten, Saba, or St. Barts? They all have their own unique culture and flavor, and they are all close by Anguilla.
Have fun in paradise!

With 12 days why limit yourself to one island. Start on St Barth's and finish up on St Martin. There is good air service between the islands.

Why was this 6-month old post resurrected? TiffanyLynn posted this question in April and never returned to this post to tell us where she decided to go on her honeymoon.

Turks & Caicos Islands. Still undiscovered and gorgeous white sand beaches with turquoise waters.

TG Dec 8th, 2003 03:46 PM

Turks & Caicos have GREAT beaches and water BUT the locals and the so-called belongers are ingrates!
The island is not that safe and the airport is something to be compared to what you might see in a Woody Allen movie like "Bananas"!
There are BETTER options out there.

I recommend Capjuluca in Anguilla.. go to the website capjuluca.com

In the past we have traveled to several islands and just got back from sunny warm Tortola in the British Virgin Islands which I would now rate near the top of our list. It was fantastic. Views were unbelievably beautiful-drive thru mountains and look down on the gorgeous scenery of the ocean and other islands in the distance. The BVIs are comprised of 30 islands some very small. You can sail or take a water taxi to other islands--Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, Anegada etc. Rent a jeep to drive to one of the most beautiful beach settings in the Caribbean--Cane Garden Bay.
We stayed at the Sugar Mill in Tortola and toured Fort Recovery Resort which was quiet and romantic. In fact they were setting up for a wedding at FR on the beach.
Plusher resorts like Peter Island and Biras Creek would be very romantic.
Nightlife in Tortola can be quiet but bands do play at several places. We were dancing to a great band playing Caribbean music with a lively crowd at Sebastians in Apple Bay on Sunday. This hotel is situated by a good surfing beach.
Honeymoon at several islands in BVI. Good luck.
